Woburn, Massachusetts is a small town in the southeastern United States located on the border of Boston and Worcester. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It has been called "The Coffee Capital of America" for over a century. Woburn is home to two coffee houses that have beenSO named: The Daily Grind (1912) and The Waffle House (1994). The first coffee house in Woburn was opened by Isaac Taylor in 1912. This location became known as The Daily Grind because it sold only ground beans. In 1994, The Daily Grind moved to its current location on Main Street where it continues to serve its namesake coffee until this day. In 1912, architect Edward Weingarten designed and built the first brick building in Woburn - actually four buildings - which served as the town's library and post office. This building still stands today and provides a beautiful view of Main Street from inside its walls. In 1914, entrepreneur Julius Rosenwald purchased land southeast of downtown Woburn and began developing what would become Rosenwald Park- one of America's most popular tourist destinations today. Rosenwald Park included a large number of co-ops dotting its 625 acres (241 hectares), including three early American espresso roasters- Bauhaus Coffee Co., Peet's Coffee & Tea Co., and Dutch Bros.- making it one of the largest plantations in North America at that time. In 1925, Rosenwald erected what is now known as Rosenwald Hall which housed his business administration offices- along with a large auditorium used for music concerts and other events throughout the years. Today, this structure remains largely unused but serves as an excellent example of how important commercial architecture can be within a small community such as Woburn given its long history as an artisan coffee center
