Westfield, Massachusetts is a town in Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 34,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Boston metropolitan area. Westfield is one of the oldest incorporated towns in Massachusetts and has been around since 1692. The town was named after William Westfeldt who settled there in 1692. The first settlers to what is now Westfield were farmers and their families who arrived from Connecticut during the early 17th century. They built cabins on the east side of present-day Highway 128 which they called "Worchester". In 1798, George Washington visited Worchester and took part in a hunt for large deer near today's village square. He was so impressed that he ordered a wagonload of goods be brought back to America with him for his own use as evidence that he had seen what America looked like before it became a country. This event helped lead to the development of Worchester into an important commercial center for eastern Massachusetts. In 1814, General John Adams appointed Amos Kendall as the first justice of peace in Worcester County after he toured America and saw how lawlessness thrived without government regulation. Kendall developed a strong interest in frontier justice and served as judge until 1824 when he retired due to age or ill health. In 1825, Congress passed an act establishing Worcester County seat at Southbridge which allowed more people from Hartfordshire (now Watertown) to settle in rural areas east of Boston due to its strategic location on two routes connecting New England with Philadelphia and Baltimore respectively. This influx led to increased business opportunities for merchants such as Amos Kendall who opened several small stores along Route 128 between Southbridge and Charlestown settlements across from Boston Common (later Fenway Park). By 1830, most of eastern Worcester County had been incorporation intoBoston while western Worcester remained primarily agricultural with few commercial developments taking place until after World War II when much development occurred around downtown Boston including riverfront property now known as Beacon Hillside which once consisted mostly of agricultural land but has become home to some high-end shops such as Macy's Department Store and Sony Pictures Studios also located on Dudley Street just outside downtown boundaries

Westfield is a town in Massachusetts, United States. The population was 12,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield-Arlington-Wellesley, MA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was settled by English colonists in 1635 and first appears on maps in 1638. The name "Westfield" probably means " clearing where wheat is grown." The first white settler was Capt. John Westfall and his family who arrived May 20th, 1635 from Ipswich, Suffolk, England as part of the Pilgrims with their shipthe Mayflower. They built a small cabin near what is now Main Street and named it "Westfeld". In 1700 Nicholas de Molay granted land to George Peake for building a mill on the river Wachusett which became known as Peake's Mill Pond (now Wellesley). At this time there were about 100 settlers in what is now Westfield; 10% of them were Indians. In 1775 during the American Revolution many towns in Massachusetts abandoned their independent status and joined Boston under British rule because they fearedtaxation without representation might lead to revolution. However, when Boston declared war on America in 1775, Westfield remained neutral and did not participate until after Boston had won its independence from Great Britain. This neutrality may have been due to Capt.(George) Peake’s 8 forfeited estates that he owned as well as his opposition to royal troops invading Massachusetts through his farmsteads (Walkingstick Village and Northborough). Captain Peake also sponsored John Adams during his brief visit to East Anglia while Adams was on his way back from France before becoming an important figure early in the Revolutionary War serving with General Jonathan Stark’s forces at Bunker Hill then later with General Thomas Gage’s army at Saratoga . It wasn't until after Lexington & Concord Bridge were destroyed by British troops that Captain George Peake finally agreed to help join Boston against King George III which would set off a series of skirmishes throughout New England culminating with Cornwallis' surrender at Yorktown Heights on October 19th 1781 following four months of continuous warfare characterized by strategic blunders by both sides including Major-General Howe leading Patriot forces into battle without orders while wearied from weekslong siege of Manhattan followed by multiple failed amphibious assaults; one resulting in more than 50 killed & wounded colonists when Royal Marines landed unopposed onto nearby Long Island September 26th 1776 only for them to be repulsed within minutes upon disembarking! Aftermath caused some residents including Capt.(George)Peake himself to flee westward along the cranberry orchard road towards Pittston beforearriving safely at Portsmouth two days later ; however others such as(Joshua) Eliot remain permanently associated with this historic event that has become known locally as 'The Battle Of Bunker Hill'.
