The United States Air Force deploys gifts to local communities annually in order to support the military and First responder missions. These items may include vehicles, tools, supplies, and more. This was in honor of World War II veteran Frank Weafer. The gift was an air engine that was donated by GE Aviation Companies. Frank Weafer was not only a WWII veteran; he also served as Mayor of West Springfield for two terms from 1984-1992. During his time as Mayor, he worked hard to promote economic development within the community and make it easier for soldiers and their families to live in West Springfield without having to leave their homes during wartime times. He is truly honored by this gift from GE Aviation Companies and we hope that it will help keep alive the memory of those who have fought for us throughout history!

After become part of Massachusetts in 1821, West Springfield became known for its lace industry and for being home to one of the largest silk dyeing plants in America until it closed its doors in 1902. In 1903, construction began on State House which remains standing as a national landmark today. In 1916, when World War I started and Europe was on edge, President Wilson called upon all Americans to come together and help contribute their share to helping defeat Germany. Many people donated money or goods to support the war effort including many prominent residents such as Congressman James Hickey and Mayor George Peabody who spearheaded local fundraising efforts. After World War I ended there was significant growth taking place throughout downtown featuring new buildings such as The American Telephone Company Building (now Comcast Headquarters), The First National Bank (now Wells Fargo) and The Armoury Building (later the MBTA's New England headquarters). In 1951, Drs., Mrs., & Mr.. Arno Lasker established Arno-Lasker Pediatrics here which continues to provide quality care today with locations throughout Boston metropolitan area including Topeka Kansas City Missouri Philadelphia Delaware Ohio Valley Pennsylvania

After South Africa declared independence from Britain in 1910, much of East Boston left for South Africa as well as West Springfield which saw its population decline rapidly until 1940 when it regained its status as a separate municipality. During World War II, many factories closed down due to wartime rationing and economic instability; however, due to Federal Emergency Management Act (FERA) support programs managed by local officials during that time period,West Springfield slowly recovered thereafter. In recent years, redevelopment efforts have led to increased housing opportunities for residents while preserving certain historic aspects of the town such as its mill village and churches dating back to the seventeenth century
