The first coffee shop in Watertown was opened in 1887 by Addison and John Maynard Wright. In 1911, the Town of Watertown established its own water authority to provide for municipal needs and to generate revenue from water sales. The first grocery store in Watertown was established in 1913 by George J. Wigglesworth and his brother-in-law Charles Fenton. In 1916, the name of the town changed from Watertown to Stamford after General George Washington Wesleyan University moved to Stamford from Lowell, Massachusetts. In 1969, Starbucks Coffee Corporation moved into the former Boston Tea Party Hall on East Main Street in Watertown and opened its first store there.

In 1825, Coffee seed was brought overland from Brazil and planted at the current site of Watertown. The first commercially successful coffee crop was grown in 1828, and in 1829, Watertown became the capital of Massachusetts. The town's first grocery store opened in 1830. The early years of Watertown were difficult, with cattle being the mainstay of the economy. However, by 1860, water power had become available for irrigation and coffee production began to increase greatly. In 1865, a mill was built which would continue to produce coffee until itClosure in 1951. Today, many aspects of Watertown's history are still celebrated including its rich cultural heritage; its vibrant nightlife; and its vibrant downtown area which is home to many businesses and restaurants.

Watertown is part of the Boston metropolitan area. The first known inhabitants of what is now Watertown were the Algonquian-speaking Wabanaki people who lived there before their Removal to New England in 1636. In 1764, £5,000 was offered for the purchase of all present and future lands within five miles of Boston Harbor from John Adams for 5 leagues (18 miles; 27 km) square with streets as wide as possible and laid out in a grid pattern with open space between each block. Watertown grew quickly due to its location on Indian Stream and its easy access to water supply and transportation. By 1800, it had become an important commercial center with banks, businesses, churches and a school system that produced some of the most talented early American engineers and Scientists such as Amos Eaton (the first postmaster), Josiah Bartlett (the first justice of the peace), Nathaniel Warren (a signer of the Declaration of Independence) and Benjamin Franklin. In 1824, a group led by Silas Deane purchased 1/2 mile (1 km) east of downtown from George Washington Proctor for $10 per acre (0.50 hectares). This began what would be called "The Townshend Purchase" which saw much growth throughout Watertown's history including 4 more blocks added to its current core during this time - until it reached its current size today! Today Watertown still thrives thanks to its strong community spirit combined with world-class infrastructure including several universities among others - making it an ideal place to call home!

Watertown was a town in Massachusetts, located on the Connecticut River. It was founded in 1775 by colonists as Watertown Plantation, and became an incorporated city in 1831. The population of Watertown peaked at over 30,000 in 1870, but has since declined to around 15,000. Today, Watertown is a small town with a population of under 10,000. Watertown was first settled by English settlers in 1775 as part of the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. The village was named for John Waterman who had purchased the land from the Native Americans near modern-day Hartford, Connecticut. In 1776, when New England seceded from British rule and formed its own government, Watertown became one of the original nine townships within Massachusetts. The first Mayor of Watertown was also its first Clerk of Courts. In 1831, during the time that Boston City Hall stood on State Street between Prince Street and King Streets (now Meeting House Square), Watertown became an incorporated city under the laws of Massachusetts due to its large population growth during that decade. In 1868-69, because Boston's water system needed expansion due to increasing populations density along Tremont Street (now Huntington Avenue), new streets were built adjacent to State Street including Park Avenue and Second avenues (now Commonwealth Avenue). At this time too much filling took place within what is now Meeting House Square which caused damage to both buildings; however it reopened soon after with less damage than originally anticipated The closure of numerous businesses such as Donnybrook Brewery owing to high water prices led to mass layoffs among local workers beginning in 1923 while other businesses continued unaffected until late 1925 or even 1926 when prices increased again making many jobs unprofitable once more On October 14th 1928 two dams collapsed near Lowell MA resulting in flash flooding which destroyed most homes upstream while leaving some low lying areas flooded for weeks afterwards killing several people
