After serving for three years she was decommissioned on September 30th, 1800 after having been used as a school vessel. Naval yards were built throughout Boston during this time and many warships were constructed here such as HMS Guerriere (1802-1805), USS St Lawrence (1812-1814), USS Constellation (1815-1816) and USS Wyoming (1820-1821). It is interesting to note that all but one of these ships were designed by noted naval architect Leonard Jefferies while most were built under license by other navies such as France and Spain.

In 1851, the townsite of Walthamstedt was annexed by Boston; however, it remained an independent township until 1901 when it became part of the City of Boston through annexation by that city from Middlesex County. The town's population peaked at 11,000 in 1930 but has since fallen below 7,000.
