When the Waltham Coast Guard was founded in 1865, it was one of the first law enforcement agencies in Massachusetts. In 1898, Waltham became an incorporated town with its own police department. The town hired its first officer, unarmed, to patrol its streets at night. In 1907, Waltham also purchased land adjacent to present-day Navy Pier for use as their new Police Station Annex building (later renamed Headquarters). This property served as the home of the Coast Guard until 1959 when it moved out to Navy Pier proper. Throughout much of its history, Coast Guard headquarters have been located at Navy Pier because it is an easily accessible location for officers and investigators who must travel between various locations within Boston during investigations or emergencies. Additionally, access to Naval Air Station Turney Island – which provides airport service for coastal communities – makes Navy Pier an ideal place to provide security for dignitaries or other important events related to maritime trade or industry in Greater Boston area

Waltham is an historic village that has been rebuilt several times over the past century. The first Europeans to visit what is now Waltham were Pilgrims in 1620. The land that would become Waltham was purchased by John Winthrop from Edward Winslow in 1636. In 1764, when British colonists began inhabiting the area, they named it "Winthrop'sborough". The present name of Waltham was given to it by General John Burgoyne after he had defeated British forces at Saratoga Valley on October 17, 1777. In 1814, part of what would become Quincy was annexed into Waltham as well; this annexation led to a rapid growth for Waltham due to its location within commuting distance for many residents. during World War II, Waltham became an important manufacturing center for aircraft and artillery production due to its close proximity to Lawrence Livermore Laboratory and other major research facilities located in nearby Berkeley and Milpitas counties. In recent years, the town has seen significant growth both inside and outside of its borders as new housing developments have sprung up along Route 128 corridor which runs through town Proper (the core of which still retains much of its historical architecture). Although some local businesses are struggling with changes brought about by gentrification or new development around them, overall there seems to be continued growth and vitality throughout all aspects of life here – whether it be downtown businesses that sell groceries or high-end retailers like Amazon who moved into a former textile mill complex just north of town proper last year – signifying yet another example of how growing towns can rebound even when faced with setbacks from outside forces such as gentrification or development plans pushed by developers looking for quick profits rather than long-term planning orocity

Waltham, Massachusetts is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 26,859 at the 2010 census. Waltham is part of the Boston metropolitan area. The town was first settled in 1630 by John Winthrop, an English Puritan missionary and explorer who was looking for a new land to settle after his ship "Mayflower" arrived in New England on July 24, 1620. He named the land "Waltham", after his home town of Wickenham in England. The first settler in what is now Waltham was Nicholas Negretti, who built a small cabin on the banks of the Merrimack River in 1635. In 1778, Waltham became one of ten towns which formed Springfield Township when Worcester County was merged into Massachusetts. That year also saw the founding of Plymouth Congregational Church and its first pastor Reverend Benjamin Westfall. In 1814, Springfield Township split off from Worcester County and became part of Cambridge City (later Somerville) District; but it reverted to Worcester County again until 1888 when it became part of Middlesex County as a result of the creation of Suffolk county. In 1916 Waltham had a population over 20 thousand people making it one of America's largest cities at that time; however this figure plummeted to 10 thousand by 2030 due to waves of immigration from Europe during World War II and other economic reasons . Although not immune to urban decline as many older American cities have done since then – like Detroit – Waltham has seen some recent progress including becoming one of only two MA municipalities (the other being Lexington MA) that has annexed territory from another municipality since 2011 . In 2016-17 residents voted overwhelmingly for incorporation into Cambridge City District once again following years with mixed results resulting from annexation efforts by neighboring municipalities such as Somerville or Malden MA . With current city boundaries almost identical to those at their height about 30 years ago–albeit with some suburban growth – there’s no reason why annexation couldn’t happen once again if desired given that both sides seem happy with current borders
