As coffee houses have been popping up all over the United States, it's no surprise that Waltham, Massachusetts has had its own share of them. The town was first settled in 1636 and has a rich history with coffeehouses being one of the oldest institutions in the area. One such establishment was The Green Dragon Coffee House which was open from 1780 to 1810. It specialized in Turkish coffee and served as a meeting spot for local politicians and merchants. In 1812, The Coffee House burned down but re-opened under new ownership less than a year later. In 1824, Bostonian John Quincy Adams visited Waltham and enjoyed a cup of Turkish coffee at The Coffee House before going on to write his famous book "A History of American Slavery." This event helped give Waltham an important reputation as an abolitionist stronghold. During the Civil War, many Waltham residents volunteered their time or money to help feed troops on trains departing for fight elsewhere. One such house was Mrs. Covington's Cafeteria which operated from 1865 until 1865 when it caught fire due to damage done by Union forces during the war. After the war, many businesses opened up in Waltham including Mr./Mrs.'s Department Store which became well known for their excellent pumpkin pies. After years of decline and closure, Mr./Mrs.'s reopened in 2001 as The Red Lion Coffee House & Bakery after renovations that included a new kitchen and barage addition that made it one of the most popular spots in town again!
As the world’s largest and most popular coffee company, Starbucks has a long history of supporting small-scale artisan coffee roasters. In recent years, they have also launched a number of initiatives designed to promote these roasters. The first initiative was their “Big Coffee Day” campaign, which saw them give away free grande cups of coffee to every customer who bought one during their daily rush hour. This campaign was designed to show customers that Starbucks is all about quality and variety, and that there are many great options for delicious and high-quality coffee out there. Another important initiative was their purchase of two small roasteries in the United Kingdom – Broughton & Carter in Northampton and Green Man Brewery in Bath – as part of their strategy to expand into new markets. These purchases help support local artisanal coffee growers while also providing Starbucks with valuable tasting samples of different coffees from around the world. Overall, these initiatives have helped contribute to an increase in awareness among consumers about the importance of small-scale artisanal coffee production – both within Starbucks itself, as well as outside of it. They hope that this will lead to more sustainable practices among those involved in producing this unique product, as well as increased sales for all involved.

Waltham, Massachusetts is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 21,711 at the 2010 census. Waltham's history goes back to 1630 when it was part of the Colony of Massachusetts Bay. In 1824, Waltham became a town and in 1872 it became an incorporated city. Waltham is located on the border of Middlesex and Essex counties. The commercial center of Waltham is located along Wellesley Street between Harvard Avenue and Church Street. The first Europeans to visit what is now Waltham were French traders who landed there in 1630 as part of the Colony of Massachusetts Bay. They named their new settlement "Nantes" after Nantes, France. At that time, much of present-day Middlesex County was unincorporated territory; towns had only been established when sections were cut off from larger villages for economic reasons or when landowners decided to side with one another in disputes over boundaries. In 1824, the Town Council voted to become an incorporated city under the laws of New England because it felt that incorporation would make it easier to compete with other cities in Massachusetts without fear of government intervention tying them down financially or politically. On July 1, 1872, following passage by both houses of the General Court Of Massachusettes (now called the Commonwealth)of a bill declaring Worcester County an area within which a city could be created if its population reached 10% within five years thereof (the City duly elected Mayor Jens Christensen), Waltham became an incorporated city under state law and has maintained this status ever since
The coffee industry has been around for centuries, and it is no secret that there are many different types of coffee beans. Some of the earliest coffee beans were found in Arabia, and they may have been used to make a type of tea. Coffee was first grown in Africa about two thousand years ago, and it is believed that the first espresso was made in Italy. The coffee industry began to grow in America about four hundred years ago, and some of the most famous brands for artisan coffee include Peet's Coffee, Starbucks, and Dunkin' Donuts.
The first coffee was roasted in Africa on the grounds of a Saharan slave plantation in the 19th century. Coffee beans were grown and processed in Brazil and Peru from around that time until the mid-19th century.
