The Navy has been in Springfield, Massachusetts since 1796. The first ship in the navy was a brigantine called “Navy” which was launched on December 12th of that year. The USS Constitution was commissioned on February 14th, 1801 and served until 1815. After the USS Constitution stopped operating, the first ship to be built for the navy in Springfield was the USS Worcester. This ship served from 1821-1830. The USS Norfolk served from 1830-1838 before being decommissioned and serving as a store vessel until 1840 when she again became a warship, this time called HMS Warrior. HMS Warrior served for three years before being decommissioned on October 25th of that year and she currently resides at Mohegan Sun casino in Uncasville, Connecticut. USS Lexington served from 1861-1865 before becoming part of Confederate States of America during the American Civil War and her final service lasted until 1865 when she also became part of Confederate States of America. Her final role within the navy was as flagship for CSS Virginia which serve during Reconstruction after the war. Since then, there have been no major updates to warships in Springfield other than refurbishment or upgraded technology but it is still home to one of America’s largest Naval Arms Depot where ships are stored while they are undergo repairs or modernization.
