They started roasted beans on a small scale and sold them door to door. In 1865, another man named Augustus Kelley bought the business from Brown and renamed it Kelley & Son Coffee Company. From then on, the company grew rapidly and supplied businesses all over Boston with their delicious cup of Joe. In 1970, businessman Bruce Ratner purchased the company from Kelley & Son and changed its name to Keefe's Coffee Company. He continued to grow Keefe's into one of the largest coffee companies in the world today with over 6,000 employees worldwide. In 1985, he passed away suddenly but had left his holdings behind which led to his son John G."Bruce" Ratner taking over as CEO of Keefe's Coffee Company in 1987 until his death in 2002. Under Bruce Ratner's leadership, Keefe's became one of America’s most prestigious coffee brands with stores all across North America including locations in London and Tokyo. The history of Somerville goes back to 1636 when English colonists arrived in what is now Middlesex County and founded a small village called "Somerset". That year, they also named their new settlement after John Morin who had served as a lieutenant colonel in Parliament during King Philip's War (1605-1607).Morin's familyowned land around present-day Somerville that has been inhabited by the Morins since colonial times. From there, various families added their names to the community over time: Griggs, Damontean, Whitney/Willson/Wiggins/Howe/Foley/Chesterfield /Smith/Niles /Hutchinson etc., until it reached its current form as it stands today with parts dating back to 1824. In 1824, local residents petitioned for incorporation into Worcester County because they felt that they were not being treated fairly by their county counterparts nearby on Cape Cod Bay which then constituted Worcester County proper. On November 3rd of that year - just two weeks after becoming an incorporated town - the Town Meeting voted unanimously to incorporate into Worcester County under the name "Somerset". Since then, Somerville has been continually growing both physically and socially due to its close proximity to major metropolitan areas including Boston and Worcester; as well as access to quality education institutions like Northeastern University and Simmons College situated within walking or bike distance respectively. Somerville is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 12,824 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Boston metropolitan area. The first white settlers in what would become Somerville were the Danvers family who arrived in 1635 from England. The town was named for Samuel Dexter, 3rd Viscount Somerville and his wife Sarah Faneuil. An early settler was John Weymouth who purchased land in 1768 and built a small cabin on what is now Elm Street. In 1825,TG Perelman settled in Somerville after purchasing 640 acres (2 km2) of forested land north of Watertown from Ephrem Wise. He founded The General Store which still stands today on Center Street east of Market Square. In 1827, two brothers by the name of Hall bought 640 acres (2 km2) of forested land south of Watertown from TG Perelman and began to farm it. They renamed their new property "Somerville". The town's first post office was established here on March 14, 1830 under the name "Hampden". In 1833, the town had a population growth rate of 25%. By 1840, with over 10% growth each year average since 1800 (!), Somerville had reached its peak population size with 15 families and 1 storeroom and public house located on Main Street between Park Row and Dudley Row ! At this point there were also three schools: one for boys at home school-owned by Mrs Grieve; one for girls at home school-owned by Miss Hetherington; and one publicly funded school operated by Mr Hetherington until he died in 1902). From 1840 through 1860, there were no more births or deaths within our borders so we must assume that all those people emigrated! However due to some very important people that moved into Somerville during this time like Captain John Davenport Sr., Cyrus McCormick & others who started up various businesses such as woolen mills etc...we can safely say that our community has been alive & kicking since those early days !"

However, by 1890 Somerville had shrunk to just 20 residents due to population loss from other towns within the colony.
