The airport had been built by Mayor James Glynn as a public works project to accommodate America's rapidly expanding military aviation. The USAAF also constructed an auxiliary runway which served as a base for bombardment missions over North Korea during the Korean War. Revere Municipal Airport remained operational until 1993 when it was closed due to budget cuts within the USAF. However, despite its closure, Revere Municipal Airport remains one of America's most significant aviation heritage sites.

Revere, Massachusetts is a town in Hampshire County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 5,901 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Boston metropolitan area. The town was first settled by English colonists in 1630 as part of the Plymouth Colony. In 1693, Revere became a part of the new Province of Massachusetts Bay. On July 6, 1775, during the American Revolution, Revere's patriots staged an amphibious assault onoston Beacon Hill to free their compatriots from British captivity. The town quickly developed into a munitions manufacturing center and its residents were heavily involved in the revolutionary movement. After America's independence was recognized by Great Britain in 1783, Revere came under British rule until 1801 when it reverted back to Massachusetts control. In 1836, Revere incorporated as a city and experienced rapid growth due to its location along the Mystic River and its heavy industry; however, this prosperity ended with World War II when most of Revere's factories were destroyed or closed down because of bombing raids by the Japanese military. Today, much of ReVERE'S historical heritage remains intact such as its brick buildings dating back to colonial times and its riverfront properties which have been used for recreational purposes such as fishing and swimming since before European settlement began there.
