Quincy was founded by English colonists in 1636 as an agricultural village on the west side of present-day Quincy centerline. The growth of Quincytown began slowly but steadily over time through immigrants brought over by waves OF British settlers during the early 1700s such as George Washington who purchased large tracts along Kings Highway in 1764; additional settlers followed throughout much of this century as Quincy became one of Boston's most dense populated neighborhoods with more than 10 acres (4 ha) dedicated to agriculture each by 1800 AD - quickly outpacing even Brookline or Waltham which both developed around this time period!
