Quincy, Massachusetts is a town in Essex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 12,822 at the 2010 census. Quincy is home to the Quincy Institute of Technology and the Quincy Market shopping district. Quincy is also the birthplace of abolitionist and temperance campaigner Abigail Adams. The town was first settled by colonists from England in 1635. In 1772, it became part of Worcester County. In 1818, Quincy became a part of Middlesex County. The current municipality was formed in 1901 when parts of Middlesex and Worcester counties were combined into one entity. The name "Quincy" comes from an English word meaning "place where men can gather." Quincy has a rich history that dates back to its earliest settlers. Archaeologists have found evidence that the area around present-day Quincy was inhabited by Native Americans for more than 10,000 years before European settlement began. One of the earliest inhabitants of what is now Quincy was Captain John Smith who settled there in 1635 with his family as squatters on land grants given to him by the Colony of Plymouth Malvernites under king Philip II of Spain. Captain Smith's settlement soon became known as "New Cambridge". The first permanent English settlement in what is now Quincy came about during King George III's War (1756-1763). Colonel Sayre and his regiment arrived in March 1758 at what is today Northampton Street corner near present day Huntington Avenue and they set up camp until April 6th when they moved south down Huntington Avenue towardspresent day Southwick Road after discovering several large tracts of land which had been reserved for military purposes only east of Boston Common along Bunker Hill Road (now Meeting House Hill). This venture marked perhaps the most significant invasion or colonization effort by Englishmen into New England since Pocock's Expedition led by General James Wolfe two centuries earlier; however this particular confrontation ended without any clear success as both sides exhaustively burned most or all their supplies including all their tents and stores within sightlines fromBoston Common on April 14th following a very close battle fought at Bunker Hill Heights near present day Peabody Museum located between Harvard University Park across street from Prudential Insurance Company buildings on Eliot Street & Harvard University Campus across street from Emerson College building). Aftermaths included many scalping attempts among colonial troops engaged in looting activities during these chaotic days as well as numerous injuries sustained among British soldiers who had no other choice but to fight dirty given their limited supplies/ reinforcements/abilities
The United States Air Force has been deploying gift baskets to its allies since the early days of World War II. The air force's first gift basket was sent to the Soviet Union in 1945 and it has continued to send baskets ever since. Today, the air force Gift History Museum is located at Lackland AFB in Texas and it contains more than 2,500 gift baskets dating back to World War II. The museum is open every day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and it is free for visitors. Gift history can be traced back to World War I when the United States began sending troops and supplies into Europe as part of the Allied Expeditionary Force (AEF). In 1915, America's first military aircraft were delivered as gifts to Great Britain, France, Belgium, Italy and Russia. From there, gifts became an important part of battlefield victory celebrations throughout World War II. During the war, America shipped more than 120 million pounds of food, clothing and other items across oceans in support of its allies- an amount that still remains unmatched by any other country during that time period. In honor of American servicemen and women who have served abroad over the years, the United States Air Force created the Gift History Museum in 2005 in orderto preserve this important history for future generations. Today, visitors can learn about how air force gifters have always responded Gree
