The North Adams Air Force Station gift history dates back to the early days of Massachusetts military aviation. North Adams, Massachusetts is a town in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 9,816 at the 2010 census. North Adams is part of the Boston metropolitan area and its economic base is manufacturing and service industries. The townsite had been settled by English Puritans in 1636 as part of an effort to found a new colony near what is now Quincy, Massachusetts. The first European settlers were men from Holland who arrived in 1639; they built small houses on Indian tracks that lead to what is now North Adams. A mill had been built there by 1645 but it was destroyed by a storm in 1649. In November 1654, Nathaniel incent published "An Account of New England" which recommended the settlement of North Adams because of its strategic location on the main road betweenBoston and Albany. In January 1655–56, John Winthrop led an expedition up the Mystic River to scout for sites for a church and school in present-day Quincy. He found three suitable locations – one near where today's Walnut Street stands and two others on opposite sides of the river – but decided on Quincy because it was closer to Boston than any other site he considered. In February 1657 Winthrop organized his first meeting of the Plymouth Colony's governing board with representatives from NorthAdams among them; this began what would be called development or colonization history at Plymouth Colony meetings. In May 1701 when Rhode Island became an independent state, NorthAdams too joined that state but kept its agreement with Plymouth Colony whereby each township elected two members to represent it in Providencestone House (the first capital). In 1837 when Norfolk County was formed from parts of Worcester County, NorthAdams belonged to Norwich Township; however since Norwich Township did not have either voting rights or property qualifications for membership in town government until after 1850, it remained outside town control until 1959 when its borders were changed again following consolidation with other townships within Norfolk County. On July 1st 1860 all townships within Norfolk County unified into one unit under the name "North Adams" effective date thereof

In 1947, the USAF purchased its first jet fighter aircraft, the F-86 Sabre. On Aug. 16, 1951, President Harry S Truman presented each air force officer and enlisted member with a model of one of America's newest weapons - the Boeing 707 passenger plane - in recognition of their dedicated service to society.
