This year’s event will be held on Saturday April 26th at 2pm at The Armory in downtown Newburyport. Admission is free for those who bring their own dog or purchase a ticket from one of K-9 Korsollas’ exhibitors during peak times (10am-4pm).

The Newburyport National Guard was organized on October 15, 1795 as a military force to serve in the Massachusetts Militia. The unit was first stationed at West Deptford and then at Northampton. The National Guard garrisoned Fort Peterborough from 1807-1811 and then Fort Warren from 1812-1815. In 1816, the Garrison of Boston was transferred to Newburyport and the Garrison of Ipswich followed in 1817. On July 1, 1800, the Newburyport Garrison became a battalion of artillery under brigadier general Jeremiah Ryder. The battalion's first brigade was disbanded on December 10, 1800 but it reformed on January 14, 1801 as a brigade with major General John Pemberton commandant. It served until November 30th when it was disbanded again due to lack of volunteers for service in the War of 1812.
