The town was home to a small time coffee roaster called Harpers Ferry Coffee and Tea, which started serving coffee in 1892. By 1904, the company had expand its operations to a three-storey building located at 828 Commonwealth Avenue. In 1916, the business moved to new premises on Franklin Street. In 1951, Harpers Ferry Coffee merged with two other smaller businesses to form The Boston Coffee Company. The company continued growing and expanding until it closed its doors in 1984. Today, there is only one remaining store open in Medford - which is managed by the same family who founded the business back in 1892.

Medford, Massachusetts is a small town in the Berkshire Hills region of Massachusetts. The population was 10,835 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern border of Berks County and the western edge of Middlesex County. The Town of Medford was chartered in 1793 and incorporated in 1801. The first settler in what is now Medford was Joshua Slocum, who arrived there in 1792 from Connecticut. In 1824, John Greenough erected a house on current-day State Street, which became home to the first school open for public instruction in New England. In 1853, two years after Boston had been founded as a city, Medford voted to become its own municipality. At that time it consisted of just over a hundred residents—a population that has since grown to more than three thousand people today. The town experienced significant growth during World War II when industries such as shipbuilding and munitions production accounted for much of its economic activity (the war brought rapid growth to the local economy). After the war ended, however,medfd’s fortunes began to decline as many businesses closed their doors or relocated away from what are now downtown Medford due to competition from larger towns within easy commuting distance (e.g., Newton). On July 1st 2007 Mayor Michael Nee announced plans for an east-west mall called "Town Center". preliminary planning for this project started back in 2006 and finally got underway last year with construction starting late last summer following $10 million worth of funding from state partners including Massport and Comcast Spectacor Cablevision

When World War II began, the Japanese invaded the country and started destroying infrastructure including plantations. In order to survive, many farmers turned to coffee production as a source of income. In 1944, while working at a plantation near Manila, Filipino coffee farmer Andres Gomez discovered maga beans and began grinding them himself. He named his new product “Maja” after his mother who was also a coffeeseed grower in Leyte province in southern Philippines. In 1957, Maja beans were introduced into Japan where they quickly became popular for their complex flavor and unique roast profile. Today, maga beans are grown all over Asia with some production happening in Indonesia as well. While there are many types of maga coffee available today (ranging from light-to-dark roasts), each has its own unique benefits and drawbacks that set it apart from other varieties. In 1629, two men named John Smith and Nathaniel Eaton founded what would become Medford. They purchased land from Sir William Pemberton for £100 euros per acre. The original house that sits today on Main Street was built soon after this purchase. Medford became an incorporated town in 1785. In 1847 it merged with another smalltown in Quincy known as West Roxbury (now Everett). At this time, Medford had a population of 551 people and West Roxbury had a population of 2,115 people
