The United States Air Force deployed Gift History in Malden, Massachusetts on December 12, 1941. The gift history was officially activated by Colonel Basil H. Ewing and Lieutenant Colonel Arthur W. Klingel at the Joint Base Lewis-McChord airfield in Everett, Washington. The 1st Bombardment Wing (1 BW) was responsible for the activation of the gift history program which was born out of need during World War II when plane tickets were hard to come by andAAF needed to provide comfort for troops stationed overseas. During World War II, gifts were often sent through mail or hand delivered to military members stationed overseas. However, this method of gifting was not always safe or reliable due to the potential for interception or theft by enemy forces. Malden, Massachusetts is an agricultural town in the southern part of Boston County, Massachusetts. The population was 21,409 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cambridge-Fenway-Waltham metropolitan statistical area. Malden is a popular tourist destination for its picturesque streets and lovely villages as well as its rich history dating back to 1620 when English colonists first settled here. The name "Malden" comes from an Indian word meaning "shorefast." The town was originally called Walthamstow because of a large down payment that English settlers made on land in this vicinity in 1620. Malden's first permanent settler was John Winthrop, who arrived in 1630 and founded Walthamstow Hall. In 1724, Colonel Thomas Hutchinson bought some additional land around present day Malden Village and decided to rename it after his family's home village of Wetherby in Yorkshire, England which had been lost to fire several years prior. In 1847, Rev. James Caldwell organized the first Baptist church in Malden with 30 members strong when only two homes were available for worship within the limits of the then existing village center. That same year saw the incorporation of Malden into Boston by Act of Congress as a separate ward (later named Hyde Park). In 1872, Drury Lane Elementary School opened its doors to students from Orchard Road Elementary School which had closed due to lack of enrollment at that time; this event marks the beginning of what would be one long line of success for Drury Lane Secondary School – becoming one of Greater Boston’s preeminent educational institutions! Since then, Maldonians have participated actively – both militarily and politically –in our great city’s growth story! Today we are proud to call ourselves “ residents(), citizens() and tourists()”!

AIR FORCE DISPLAY OF GIFT HISTORY On September 11th, 2017, the USAF deployed its largest and most diverse gift history to date - an A-10 Warthog aircraft! This unique aircraft is flown by both fighter pilots and bombers and can carry up to six bombs or missiles on its two engines for strikes against enemy targets. It had previously been donated by Boeing Co., Incorporated to be used as part of Operation Allied History Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio from 1995-2002. In honor of 9/11/01 - America's first terrorist attack - this unique gift was made available once again to use by members of the USAF community globally! On October 3rd, 2017 - less than a year after deployment - it was gifted once again to RAF Lakenheath AB UK for use as part of Operation Allied History Museum at Lakenheath AB UK from 2016-2018 OPERATION ALLIED HISTORY MUSEUM: Wright-Patterson AFB IN DAYTON OHIO This unique gift was made available once again to use by members of the USAF community globally! In honor of 9/11/01 – America’s first terrorist attack – this unique gift was made available once again for use by members of the USAF community globally! The A-10 Warthog Aircraft deploys what amounts to a virtual museum exhibit inside Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton Ohio from 1995-2002 when it was donated by Boeing Co., Incorporated It also contains information about all types of jets operated by both fighters and bombers during World War II as well as current jet technology and trends
