In the early 1800s, coffee beans were grown in Africa. The beans were roasted and ground to create a drink that was called "maga." In 1823, a Dutchman named Hendrik Janse van Rijn discovered coffee beans in Ethiopia. He brought back some of the beans and started a small business in Amsterdam. He named his coffee company "Rijks-Koffiehuis" (National Coffee House). Van Rijn continued to produce good quality espresso until his death in 1840. A few years later, coffee beans were introduced to America by Fritsch Brothers who traded with Holland. One of the first American buyers of van Rijn's coffee was John Jacob Astor. In 1847, Prentice Mifflin published an article about coffee called "The National Coffee Journal," which introduced American people to Ethiopian-grown coffee. American businessmen began buying Ethiopian-grown coffee for their kitchens because it was cheaper and more productive than other types of coffees they had been using at the time. In 1853, J.P.(John Peter) Morgan founded The World's First Coffee Company in Newark, New Jersey with aid from James Stillman and others Morgan purchased an acreage near Addis Ababa in Ethiopia where he began growing Arabica beans under license from Harrar Darfurian farmers still today there is significant production of this type of bean all around Africa

The town of Holyoke, Massachusetts was founded in 1636 by Puritans on the site of a manor once owned by the Winthrop family. The first settlers were Samuel Sewall and his wife Rebecca. Holyoke became a center for religious, educational, and political activity during the Cromwellian era (1648-60). In 1668, Holyoke was chosen as the capital of New England because it had been selected as a place where Englishmen could live free from interference from their Indian enemies. The community grew rapidly during the early eighteenth century due to its location, good soil, and friendly people. In 1786, Holyoke became part of Rhode Island after that state's independence from Great Britain. However, despite this change in allegiance, many residents kept their homes and businesses in Holyoke until around 1830 when they all moved toRIderland permanently. Holyoke experienced significant growth following its incorporation into Massachusetts in 1828. This growth included new housing developments such as Elmwood Village and Southwick Village which replaced older pioneer settlements dating back to 1636. Additionally, business enterprises began to develop such as an insurance company and a flour mill which helped support the town's rapid population growth. Many key aspects of modern day life - such as education and transportation - were developed inHolyoke during this time period including streetcar development that began operations in 1873; electric light bulbs;and automobiles both practical vehicles and symbols of progress during this era
