As part of its celebrations, Haverhill organized a fairground which still operates today called "The Village." During World War II, many Japanese Americans were incarcerated in internment camps located throughout Massachusetts due to their race or national origin. Many people from Haverhill joined various activism campaigns against these camps such as 'Operation Rainy Day'. After World War II ended, many Japanese Americans returned to their homes and businesses while others chose to live elsewhere within New England or outside the United States entirely. In 1965–1966, when voters passed Proposition 3A (known as "The Voting Rights Act"), many African American residents of West Virginia moved into eastern Massachusetts because they felt discriminatory practices by local officials here had been facilitating voter fraudulently by white citizens throughout southern West Virginia since before Reconstructionfellas tantamounted after passage of that act occurred eighteen months earlier on May 14th 1865 - three days after Emancipation Proclamation became effective; voting rights for black citizens had previously been granted through state charters rather than on an equal basis with other citizens under US Constitution article V Section 5 - inaugurating Jim Crow laws across entire US south following Reconstruction period until Brown v Boardwalk decision finally abolished all such segregationist ordinances nationwide beginning 1942 Stated more recently: Voting rights for all citizens except Negroes were granted automatically by Congress upon ratificationof Nineteenth Amendment on November 6 th , 1920; whites only newly qualified for franchise via ballot box process thereafter pursuant to Fifteenth Amendment ratified December 15 th ; however Negroes currently enjoy full civil rights & voting privileges under current Constitution amendment except where prohibited by law . Haverhill, Massachusetts is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 8,093 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Boston metropolitan area. The land where Haverhill stands today was first settled by English colonists in 1630. The town was originally called "Axtell" after Sir William Axtell of Haverhill who founded it in 1630. The name changed to "Haverhill" because of the difficulties encountered in finding an original spelling of the word "Axtell". When England was won back from France during the American Revolution, many British soldiers and their families decided to settle in America and started farming here as early as 1776. Many people from England brought their musical skills with them when they arrived and soon began creating music groups called "The Haverhill Boys." In 1811, John Bowdoin founded Dartmouth College on this same site which became one of the leading universities in America. In 1847, George Washington visit Haverhill while he was on his way to Cambridge to teach surveying courses at Harvard University. He stopped for lunch at Axtell's Inn on Route 9 and ordered a lobster dinner which he ate outside on the lawn where he later noted that it tasted “the best lobster I ever had” (Washington Diary). This event helped make Haverhill known throughout America as a leaders center for education and food research. With its close proximity to Boston and its rich cultural heritage, Haverhill has been prominent both politically and academically throughout its history. In 1916, Mayor James Michael Jaffe ordered all public buildings be turned into homes within two years so that residents could share common resources more easily. After World War II ended and many veterans returned home, community spirit prevailed once again; all public buildings were reverted back to their former function as homes again by 1964! Today, much like during its earliest days when English colonists set up shop hereabouts - commerce flourishes through services such as law enforcement, healthcare/health care service providers etc., but also through hands-on projects such as art galleries or social clubs - giving life back to this historic town!
