The Boston Navy Yard was founded in 1768, and became a leading Naval armory in the colonies. The yard produced warships of all types and sizes, including two frigates, HMS Constitution (1775) and HMS Guerriere (1776), as well as more than 100 privateers. In 1845, the navyyard was transferred to the city of Boston for use by the newly formed United States Navy. The navyyard continued to produce warships until 1908. In 1916, Fitchburg became part of Boston's new military district, which included all of Massachusetts excepting New Hampshire and Rhode Island. In 1941, during World War II, the navyyard was closed due to its significant wartime losses. It reopened in 1945 as a storage facility for munitions. After the war it reverted back to its original naval role as an armory again. In 1991-1992 it underwent a major renovation which increased its capacity from 2 million kgs to 5 million kgs of cargo space. Today it is one of the largest naval armories in North America with over 25 million kgs of cargo space available on six main decks

The men who founded Fitchburg were John Fitch and Solomon Weed. In 1826, George Washington University moved to nearby Amherst and Fitchburg became a part of that university's system of education. This may be true for most people when they move to a new town or city but not so for John Fitch and his family when they moved from England to live on an hundred acre farmstead in what is now Fitchburg, Massachusetts approximately one hundred years ago today! For John and his wife Rebecca (née Marks) this meant starting fresh with all new surroundings- something that had never been done before in their homeland! What started as just two families living together quickly grew into six more plus their children as well over time; making this community one where everyone got along famously well despite their many different cultures! Some would say that it took some time for them all to become comfortable with each other but eventually they did- creating what we know today as “the perfectmelody”: interchangeable spouses, similar backgrounds yet diverse perspectives always swapping ideas and experiences as needed; constantly learning about each other while building strong relationships both inside and outside of our homes! Fitchburg, Massachusetts is a town in the town of Dartmouth, in Oxford County, Massachusetts. The population was 5,022 at the 2010 census. Fitchburg was originally named "Finchburgh" after John Finch and his family who settled there in 1638. In 1784 the town was renamed for James Fitch by General William Howe of the British army during the American Revolution. The first European to visit what is now Fitchburg was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524. He named it Villa delle Felici because he found several sweet potatoes there and gave them to Captain John Smith as a present when he reached Boston early that year from Newfoundland. By 1638, John Finch had built a house on what is now Main Street and two other buildings on Middle Street. He also hired Nicholas Weymouth as carpenter and surveyor; these men were instrumental in developing Dartmouth's early infrastructure including roads, bridges, and drains. In 1784, General William Howe of the British army occupied America during the Revolutionary War. As part of his effort to consolidate all English-speaking colonies under one government, Howe ordered James Fitch to rename his new settlement for him – Fitchburg (pronounced Faykburgh). After much deliberation among local officials and citizens alike over which name would be more appropriate given that many people here bore Dutch or French namesakes like De Courcy or Vaudreuil (the latter being anglicized into "Fitzgerald"), they decided on James' original choice: Villa delle Felici (meaning "House of Happiness"). After months of careful planning by both residents and town officials, construction began on downtown Fitchburg's first courthouse in October 1786 using materials brought over aboard HMS Pembroke while she lay at anchor off Groton Bayport until ordered to leave by Admiral Gravesend with orders to convoy supplies bound for Quebec City! The decision to build a courthouse here followed an earlier trend among colonial towns such as Manchester (now Pequot) where courts were held outdoors in open fields until needed indoors when indoor courtroom space became available. Groundbreaking for this important civic center took place amid much celebration including an impressive public dinner given by Governor Peterborough December 4theenth followingwhich more than fifty persons contributed their talents! The first building erected on Front Street near Court House Square included a jail which served as model for later state institutions such as Springfield's State Hospital today; however due largely to lack of financial resources local authorities could not keep up witheller requests for inmate housing so cells continued To be used as powder rooms until 1868 when they were replaced by First Presbyterian Church Building #1 which still stands today adjacent thereto! A second courthouse followed along Main Street between Park Avenue South and Meetinghouse Road before being replaced by First Presbyterian ChurchBuilding #2 which still stands today adjacent thereto! This courthouse housed most court proceedings throughout its various incarnations including criminal cases heard by jurors before magistrates; civil cases heard before judges; elections; land suits; common law litigation; probate matters; business transactions etc., making it one of the most comprehensive record keeping facilities ever assembled within any Utopia! It can also claim distinction as being one of only two remaining colonial courthouses left standing across North America after independence!
