Everett began as a small farmstead on April 14, 1692 by two families of English settlers who named themselves the Winthrop andometts. In 1801 it became part of the towns of Plymouth and Brighton. It was first settled by Loyalists who fled Boston during the American Revolution. In 1824 Everett incorporated as a village. On July 1, 1850, Everett became one of the towns in Plymouth County when that county was created from parts of Middlesex and Suffolk counties. Everett has been governed by a Board of Selectmen since 1793 when Worcester Township was merged into Plymouth County. According to the 2010 US Census there are 10 wards in Everetttown (with an overall population size of 8,471) which makes this one of America's most populous villages outside New York City or Los Angeles combined!
