Easthampton, Massachusetts is a town in Adams County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. Easthampton is considered to be part of the Quincy metropolitan area. It was first settled by English colonists in 1630 as part of the Plymouth Colony. Easthampton has been spelled "Easter" since 1752. The town was originally called "Hastings", and then "Easter". The first settler in what is now Easthampton was John Barker in 1630. In 1635, he and his wife Elizabeth moved from London to Easthampton after being denied entry into the Plymouth Colony because they were female drivers on horseback. Barker's children were also born here: William (1636-1710), Mary (1637-1712), Thomas (1638-1720), Anne (1640-1715), Dorothy (1642-1803) and James Barker Jr. In 1752, when Massachusetts became a colony under British rule, Easthampton changed its name to "Easthampton". The original church there still stands today—the First Unitarian Church—and it is one of four churches in Adams County which still maintain their original building plans and construction dates dating back to before 1700 AD/CE. One reason why Easthampton retains its colonial identity despite being located within modern dayAdams County is that until 1828 only white people could own land here; all other residents were Native Americans or slaves who owned land elsewhere in the county or throughout New England.. Consequently, although farmlands have been developed here over time for housing, industry and other purposes such as quarries for granite and marble statuesque adornments for statehouses across Boston – most notably those built between 1828 and 1840 by prominent local builder Ebenezer Channing – aspects of the town’s cultural heritage remain largely unchanged including its small but important community center which opened as an academy school in 1868 for African American students from Jamaica Plain; its brickowning tradition dating back to c1800; its wide variety of farms with their associated millstreams running through them; its several churches including First Unitarian Congregationalist (founded 1684); Baptist; Methodist Episcopal Church - affiliation with Puritanical Congregationalists active along both sides of Commonwealth Avenue where many early millionaires grew up; as well as various barnyards used for hay production until around 1930 when large swathes became suburbanites away from easy access to marketspace most notably via Route 128 concurrent with Interstate 84

Boston declined to recognize Easthampton as its own city, but Easthampton retained its status as a municipality until 1889 when it merged with neighboring Randolph to form Quincy-Haverhill-Easthampton Township.
