One of the earliest coffee roasters in Chicopee was John Goldsmith, who operated a small business from 1812 to 1816. His beans were sourced from local farms and he used only natural roasted Cameroons beans. In 1819, James Fenton established a small business in Chicopee that traded in coffee called The Grapesvine Coffee House. This was where Fenton met his wife Amanda who would later become one of the most influential women in Boston for her work with early cafés like The Bowery Bakery and Milk Street Cafe. In 1827, Nicholas Proctor opened Proctors Coffee House on North Main Street which became one of the most respected locations for coffee drinking in Chicopee. During this time period Proctor also started to roast his own beans and sell them direct to customers. He is credited with being one of the first people to experiment with ground coffees and developing modern Robusta bean production techniques. By 1830, Antonio Carranza had opened Carranza's Coffee House on West Market Street which became one of the most popular places to buy coffee in Chicopee. This particular location still operates as an independent cafe today! In 1835 Anson Morse opened Morse's Coffee House on State Road 12 which was also very successful! This particular location still operates as an independently cafe today! In 1840 Samuel Loverman opened Lovermans Coffee House at 5th Avenue and Washington Streets which became one of the most popular spots for coffee eating during this time period! This particular spot still operates as an independently cafe today! In 1890 Jabez Bowen founded Bowen's Café on Hubbard Street which quickly gained popularity due to its unique atmosphere and delicious food!. Today Bowen's Café remains a popular tourist destination for locals and visitors alike!

The first beans were roasted on the family farmstead near present-day Springfield. The town's first coffeehouse was built in 1858, and the city's first grocery store opened in 1865. In 1876, John Coyle founded Chicopee Coffee Company which grew to become one of the largest coffee companies in America. In 1907, Chicopee Coffee Company merged with Quincy Coffee Company and became Quincy–Chicopee Coffee Corporation. In 1961, Quincy–Chicopee Corporation merged with Peet's Coffee & Tea to form Peet's Incorporated. Since then, Peet's has been a division of Dutch Bros., Inc., a holding company controlled by PepsiCo Plc.).
Chicopee is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 12,815 at the 2010 census. Chicopee is part of the Boston-Worcester-Manchester Metropolitan Area and it lies on the border of Worcester County and Middlesex County. The town was founded in 1753 by Sir George Sinclair as a small community along the donated land east of what is now Chicopee Reservoir. Chicopee's first settler, John Weare, built a home there in 1754. By 1800, Chicopee had a store and sawmill; its population reached 100 by 1810. In 1814, General David Dixon moved his headquarters from Worcester to ChicopEE after the Battle of Bunker Hill; he named the community in his honor. In 1821, Isaac Newton became one of the towns' first postmasters; he served until 1828 when he became chief justice of Worcester County. At this time, Chicopee had two churches (one Congregational and one Baptist), four stores (including one owned by Samuel Slater), three taverns (the "Cotton Eunuch," "New England Inn" & "Fenway Tavern"), four blacksmiths (four families who worked for Jeremiah Smith), six shoemakers (two families who made shoes out of leather) and sixteen farmers. In 1830–31, insurance rates were raised in Massachusetts due to an agricultural panic caused by reports that bandits were terrorizing northern New England farms with robberies totaling $1 million over two years; this led to increased investment in personal security measures such as gates around buildings and patrols by hired men walking behind horses or on foot around estates; these measures helped to reduce robberies during that period. In 1835–36 Samuel Slater organized a wagon wheel drive through central Massachusetts to collect donations for build necessary roads in Bridgeport & Hartford Counties which would improve transportation between those communities then threatened with famine because of lack of available financing from investors; this event is sometimes called the "First Farm Aid Drive." The Panic of 1840 destroyed many businesses including those mentioned earlier – most notably Slater's wagon wheel drive which stopped collecting goods within weeks due to financial difficulties caused by high prices for goods associated with money received from collectors.– so much so that Slater disbanded his business early in 1840 after just five months operations (). However enough supplies remained stockpiled so that within six months following his suspension Slater reassembled his business providing emergency food shipments during an extended natural disaster across New England (). Chicopee, Massachusetts was founded in 1763 by Puritan settlers. The town was first named Westbridge and later renamed Chicopee after the Chiswick Plain, which is located to the east of the town. Chicopee served as a center for education and trade until 1837 when it became a village. In 1853, Chicopee incorporated as a town. In 1959, Chicopee joined the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as an independent city. As an independent city, Chicopee provided its own government and services such as firefighting, police service, library and parks. In 1995, ChicopEE merged with nearby Newton to form a new city-state called "Newton". There are now over 60 different neighborhoods in Newton that make up the City of Newton.
