The history of the National Guard in Cambridge, Massachusetts can be traced back to the Revolutionary War. The town of Cambridge was known for its munitions production and its soldiers were needed to help protect the city from British forces. In 1775, Massachusetts Governor John Winthrop appointed a company of volunteer soldiers to garrison the fort at Boston. This company became known as the Cambridge Company and continued to serve through the Revolution, until they disbanded in 1783. During the Civil War, many towns in Massachusetts turned into Confederate States of America (CSA) departments. In order to maintain order within their own communities, local militias were formed with members from both sides. The National Guard was one such militia unit and it played an important role during the war. For example, on April 12th 1861, units from Worcester County Unit E were called into action by Governor Andrew Johnson to quash a rebellion against his rule in that county. Since 1814, when Massachusetts first created a national guard regiment (the 2nd Regiment), all active national guard regiments have been located in Springfield/Cambridge area. However, due to population growth throughout MA over this period there has never been enough room for all these units within Springfield proper; thus they have always been stationed separately at various locations around town or outside of town altogether (e.g., Nahant Valley Arsenal). Unlike other states where the military is headquartered directly under civilian control (i.e., Texas),MA has had a more complex system where different parts of government are responsible for different aspects of Army and Air Force operations including Guard units which are then integrated into those commands as necessary or desired changes occur in either field or policy require separate command representation for each service branch’s activities within MA overall security posture…. The Active Duty Marine Corps National Guard is made up of Marines from all branches of the armed forces who are not currently serving in Iraq or Afghanistan but have volunteered their time to serve overseas. The ADMNCG patrol our nation's coasts and help protect our citizens when necessary, as well as attend marine academies for training that gives them skills they need in their civilian lives after they leave service. In addition, there are Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) programs where enlisted members from all branches of the military can earn college degrees while serving in a uniformed role. These programs offer an opportunity for service members to learn about leadership, business management, engineering, law enforcement, or other career options available after leaving active duty service.
The Cambridge National Guard was a unit of the United States military that existed from 1789 to 1967. The unit was first organized as part of the Massachusetts militia and then raised in 1791 as an infantry regiment. In 1812, the regiment became a battalion and in 1827, it became a brigade. The brigade was disbanded in 1892 but reactivated in 1907 as an Infantry Regiment. The regiment served at various times during World War I, World War II, and the Korean War. It was finally disbanded in 1967.
Cambridge, Massachusetts is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. The population was 23,821 at the 2010 census. It is the largest community in Middlesex County and one of two communities in Cambridge (the other being Somerville) with a population over 100,000. The land that now makes up Cambridge was first settled by English colonists in 1629 as part of the Mayflower Compact. The town was chartered on July 1, 1793, and named for John Harvard, an eminentDemocrat who had earlier served as president of Harvard College. In 1825, Cambridge became the site of what is now the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The townsfolk chose to build their schools on Meetinghouse Hill because it afforded a splendid view of Downtown Boston from any location within or near the town limits. When MIT opened its doors in 1837, it quickly became clear that downtown Boston could not accommodate both the academic and commercial needs of both MIT students and commercial entities wishing to invest in downtownBoston. With rapid growth citywide during this time period – including developing neighborhoods such as North End and South Side – Cambridge has gradually become less important economically and more symbolic than downtownBoston as an economic center for Greater Boston. TheOriginal name for Cambridge was "Worchester". On July 1st 1793 Worchester changed hands 2 times before settling on "Cambridge" after much deliberation among some 300 individuals voting thereon! This choice may have been made due to its distance from Worcester proper which at that time lay just south of modern day Milton Keynes Some believe that this distant location contributed to "the sense of detachment from home seen throughout much early Cambridgeshire life." After numerous changes over time - including one vote to change it back to 'Worchester' after just 5 minutes - "Cambridge" stuck around until 1984 when it again reverted back to its original name: "Middlesex County". And finally since 2002 when MA announced plans for a new campus adjacent to historic Fenway Park called Emerson Hall (now called Alumni House), 'Middlesx Countys' official name has been 'Emerson Halls'.

In 1916 – just two years after World War I ended – Cambridge became part of Massachusetts after it was merged with other northern Massachusetts towns including Newton and Lexington into what is now called “Boston metropolitan area” or MA-1 . In 1984–1985 Cambridge became home to both the world’s first Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) – which hearkened back to earlier days when MIT professor Alonzo Moore developed photocopying devices at PARC – as well as then newly opened Microsoft Windows 95 Headquarters facility .
