The Coast Guard has been in Brockton since 1916. The first coast guard station was built in 1916 on the site of the present day Brockton Elementary School. It was moved to its current location in 1951 and remains today one of the largest and most popular gifts for holidays from the Coast Guard. In 1976, a new station was built on Arlington Avenue in southeastern Brockton. This station served as an academy for new coast guard recruits and is now used as a training ground for all members of the Coast Guard. The name "Brockton" is derived from the town of Brockenburgh in Norfolk County, England, where English settlers first arrived in 1630. The city was founded on April 22, 1793 by General James Warren as part of the new Colony of Massachusetts Bay. It grew quickly due to its strategic location and its naval capabilities during World War II. In 1966, Brockton became an incorporated city with a mayor-council system. Today, Brockton is one of the largest cities in Massachusetts and has a diverse economy that includes manufacturing, education and health care services. The city also features a number of cultural institutions including the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Fenway Park.

Brockton, Massachusetts is a town located in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, on the north shore of Long Island. As of the 2010 census, its population was 25,865. The name Brockton comes from John Brocket who founded the town in 1692. Brockton has been home to many residents of distinction throughout its history. Its first settler was Captain Jonathan Winthrop, who arrived in 1630 and built his house at what is now Main Street and Market Square. Other early settlers included Nathaniel Dawes and Samuel Adams. In 1764, when fighting broke out between British soldiers and Native Americans near present-day Brockton Center, General Benedict Arnold ordered his men to fire on the unarmed civilians and burn their homes. This event is generally considered to be Brockton's beginning as a settlement. The development of cotton plantations in central New England during the 18th century led to increased demand for labor in Brockton; by 1800 there were over 100 slaveholders living here. However, due to racism against African Americans in America at this time, many black residents chose instead to migrate southward or leave for other parts of North America rather than live under white rule. During World War II, Brockton played an important role as one of four industrial sites across New England selected for use as military munitions plants (the others being Hartford-West Haven Naval Air Station outside Connecticut City; Manchester Naval Air Station outside Merrimack Valley; and Saybrook Naval Air Station). Although few products actually resulted from these plants - primarily ammunition because of wartime shortages - locals learned about them through Allied air raids that struck nearby communities such as Fall River and Groveland during World War II exhaustively bombing operations known as "The Great American BOMBERING OF 1945". In 1954–55 work began on developing a new high school campus within walking distance of downtown which would eventually become University Avenue High School today – making it one of only two high schools in New England with this feature (the other being Lowell High School). That same year also saw the birth of Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling here – followed later by future Major League Baseball stars like Pedro Martinez and Roger Clemens – who attended local Middlebury College Preparatory Academy before moving on to college football powerhouse Yale University where he became an All-American quarterback (and helped lead YaleNOT lose its first bowl game since 1915). For three years running from 1957 through 1959 Rockport Savings & Loan won $5 million dollars playing host to The Heisman Trophy Contest at its then-new tower adjacent to Rockport Harbor where current day Fenway Park sits today! Finally after three years that saw no major prize awarded at Rockport Savings & Loan they moved their main headquarters back into town square following a failed bid for government investment that fell victim to congressional gridlock following President John F Kennedy's inauguration on January 20th 1961! Today BrockTON boasts few if any negative aspects aside from periodic economic downturns which can cause serious bills totaling hundreds or even thousands of dollars not just locally but statewide with little or no relief offered either through governmental agencies or private enterprise once again taking center stage once again….
