Air Force gift history in Barnstable, Massachusetts began with the creation of the United States Air Force on February 14, 1947. The USAF was created to provide air support for American troops during World War II. The USAF became a permanent military force after the war and was renamed the US Air Force on September 30, 1947. On October 9, 1949, Operation Paperclip began when Nazi Germany announced they were seeking to import new personnel into theAAF as part of their program to create a “racial pure” German army. Barnstable resident Major Don Haney was one of the first Americans to be accepted into theAF and he served in Germany until 1951. In 1957, Colonel William Jolliffe became Chief of Staff ofactivatedthe USAF at Lackland AFB in San Antonio TX responsible for all air forces in Continental America. Colonel Jolliffe envisioned that activated USAF would become an umbrella organization that would serve all wings across Continental America with common mission and goals. activation resulted in establishment of three major commands: Tactical Air Command (TAC), Strategic Air Command (SAC), and Aeronautical Division (AD). With these organizational changes came new traditions and policies which continue to this day such as providing complimentary food for active duty members upon arrival at their units or post-deployment housing allowances. Sinceactivation there have been many advancements within both USAF and civilian life throughout America which has directly impacted how we operate today including Operation Neptune's Spear which destroyed two nuclear missiles facilities in North Korea; Operation Desert Storm which struck Iraqi targets;Operation Enduring Freedom which toppled Taliban controls over Afghanistan;andOperation Just Cause which removed Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq

Barnstable, Massachusetts is a town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 9,824 at the 2010 census. The name comes from the native word "barn" meaning house and "stick", which is how the town got its start as a small farming community. Barnstable was first settled by English colonists in 1636. The town was first named Pemaquid until it changed to Barnstable in 1790 after General John Barnet bought land there for $1,000. In 1801, the town received its current name when it became part of Massachusetts Colony under the leadership of Governor Samuel Adams. The economy of Barnstable is based largely on agriculture with some light industry scattered throughout the community. Many of the businesses in town are family-owned and operated since they have been around for many years or were founded by locals who continue to operate them today. There are also several churches located in and around town that provide religious services to residents as well as local schools that serve both public and private students within the community. Barnstable was first settled in 1620 by the Barnstable Native Americans. The town was named for Captain William Bradford, who founded Plymouth Colony in 1620. In 1851, Barnstable became a part of Massachusetts and was renamed Barnstable town. The population of Barnstable reached its peak in 1930 with over 20,000 residents. However, the population decline has been consistent throughout the years and as of 2018 there were only 10,898 residents living in the town. The history of Barnstable can be traced back to early settlements on Cape Cod by members of the Wampanoag tribe. These people hunted and gathered food near present-day downtown Barnesport. In 1722, Captains John Woolwich and Nicholas Levee chartered a ship called "Dolphin" to trade with the Wampanoag nation. After reaching Narragansett Bay, they discovered an isolated island off their coast which they named “Barnstaple” after their captain Bradford’s birthplace in Northumberland County, England (now Newcastle-upon-Tyne). This is where Captains Woolwich and Levee landed on November 25th 1722 and began trading with local natives for goods that would later be transported downriver to Boston through what is now known as Cape Cod Ferry service. In 1793, during King George III's administration of America, General Thomas Gage ordered all Englishmen from Massachusetts except those living within four miles of Boston to leave by December 1st or face punishment under martial law. Many felt this order violated English justice because many British subjects had not left voluntarily since 1688 when James II had revoked Parliament's charter giving them freedom to live according to their own wills without subjection to British rule. On December 1st about 2200 Patriots evacuatedBoston including 300 men from Barnstable who sailed into Marblehead Harbor on HMS Dolphin under command of Commodore Samuel Bligh RN while 500 more men marched inland from Portsmouth Navy Yard along Route 2A boarding vessels at Sandwich before disembarking at Ipswich Naval Dockyard on December 3rd 1700 assisted by Royal Marines led by Major John signer Hannah
