Attleboro is a town in Hampshire County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 7,812 at the 2010 census. The town is located on the banks of the Attleboro River. The first settler in what would become Attleboro was John Hathaway in 1638. He and his family were among the first to come ashore on the current site of Attleboro Harbor. On July 24, 1638, Hathaway purchased from the Narragansetts a tract of land that included present-day Attleboro. It was soon realized that this acquisition would provide ample opportunity for trade with other parts of New England; so much so that by 1705 it had become one of the most important commercial centers in Plymouth Colony. In 1724 Nathaniel Parker sold to Nathaniel Maverick 1/4 mile (0.6 km) east of where he now stands an original grant from Samuel Deering which ran "from pointe Northampton thence easterly for foure miles until it reacheth a place called West Killamarre" (now part of Northeastern MA). This grant provided for grazing land for cattle and hunting rights on several thousand acres (400 hectares) along the river's edge within five miles (8 km) of Boston; as well as access to mills and other resources close at hand. Nathaniel Maverick also acquired some valuable real estate adjacent to modern day Attleborough: he bought "the high ground betweene South Thomaston and North Thomaston", including present-day Easton Road and Meeting Street; he also acquired "a piece or parcel betweene Howard's Mill & Mr Forster's house" which included today's Route 128 freeway off ramps leading north into Boston proper. In 1729 Nathan Hale went missing while serving as captain of HMS Lexington during King George II's War with France; eventually his body was discovered near what is now Framingham, Massachusetts two years later after being reported overdue twice by soldiers on duty in Connecticut Valley settlements along the border with Canada. Hale became known as America's Unknown Soldier due to his conduct during King George II's War - including leading a scouting party through enemy lines without orders and then deserting when ordered back inside Canada upon learning their king was not participating in hostilities against France! Although few people knew his true identity at the time, Hale eventually achieved national fame as a result - both because people curious about him hunted down any traces he may have left behind and because articles about him continue to be reprinted even 50 years after his death! Although there has been evidence found throughout recent decades suggesting that person or persons unknown abducted Hale during King George II’s War - none have yet been conclusively proven responsible for his disappearance! One theory suggests that someone involved with British military intelligence may have leaked information about Hale’s location making him easy prey for French forces waiting outside Canadian borders; however no concrete evidence exists supporting this theory either! Some believe that Hale may have been captured alive by French forces before being tortured before being killed - though no definitive proof exists supporting this claim either! Whatever happened to Nathan Hale remains one mystery still unsolved!

Attleboro, Massachusetts is a town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 10,598 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Boston metropolitan area. Attleboro was first settled by Pilgrims in 1630 and became a town on December 2, 1776, when it joined the new Province of Massachusetts Bay as Wellesley Township. The original white settlers were from England and arrived in large numbers during the growth of the British Isles during the seventeenth century. After independence was granted to America on July 4th, 1776, many English colonists fled to North America where they began what would be an extensive farming and trading economy that would grow into one of the great American civilizations. In 1848 Attleboro became a city with its own government and borders changed again when it merged with Quincy to form Quincy-Attleboro-Wellesley. Today's downtown has undergone several renovations including construction of a new library which opened in 2006 and was designed by cantilevered metal frame architecture firm WrightSonDunnLarson Hanson Architects LLP.. The village located south of town had a population of 514 before it Joined Wellesley Township in 1776; however soon after incorporation many people left for better prospects upstate or away from home political instability following King George III's War (1755-63). Withdrawal from Boston increased settlement opportunities along Route 3a leading eastward through present day towns Wellesleyville (north), Wayland (east), Thomaston (southwest) and Woburn (south). Settlers built log homes aroundcurrent mills such as Water Mill & Gristmill #2 & #3 known today as Southway House #1 & Thomaston House #3 on mill ponds now used for swimming beach access; also sawmills & gristmills along Route 3a still standing today: Sawmill 1 - now converted into apartments/condo buildings next door to State Park; Gristmill 2 - also converted into apartments/condos next door to State Park; Sawmill 3 - still standing but disassembled due to vandalism decades ago
