Agawam, Massachusetts is a town in Hampshire County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 2,922 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Boston metropolitan area. The first coffee beans were roasted in Agawam by Nicholas Appert and his brother-in-law Joseph Bickford on May 6th, 1796. The beans were ground up and sold to other farmers nearby. By 1800, coffee had spread throughout New England and was being roasted at various stores in what is now Agawam. In 1824, the first coffeehouse called Coffee House opened in Agawam along with a grocery store and post office. In 1853 the first direct mail order service for coffee was started from Agawam with orders sent directly to subscribers' homes. Coffee production ceased between 1911 and 1916 due to World War I; however, continued roasting has resumed since then. Today's farmworkers produce over 7700 pounds of beans per day including 20% whole bean!

The town was first settled by English colonists in 1636 as part of the Dorchester Purchase. It was originally named "Aghawa" after the local chief. In 1781, when Agawam became part of Worcester County, it was renamed "Agawam". The present name comes from an Indian word meaning "the place where they hunted." The earliest settlers were war veterans or their children who had returned to their homes after serving in the Revolutionary War and during the Confederation Period (1781-1815). They built log cabins on land which they acquired through purchases and sale of goods captured by British forces during that period. Many of these early settlers were men who had been discharged from military service because they could not afford to keep up with military expenses. Others were women who had married veterans or civilians; many women also ran small businesses in what was then rural America. In 1801, two-thirds of Agawam's citizens were maleideonians—white Europeans descended from English Protestantswho had served as soldiers or sailors in North American exploration and warfare during the seventeenth century. A few men among these Gideonians owned land but most worked for others in industries such as shipbuilding and trading post building (a mainstay of economic life until about 1870). Only a very few white men continued to own property outright throughout much of nineteenth century Massachusetts; most black Africans living near white occupations did so only after emancipation according to law passed at state level during Reconstruction Era (1865-1913). Most white farmers either bought land outright or leased it from Negroes under conditions designed to minimize social integration while maximizing production on whites’ behalf while maintaining separate civil rights for blacks within their own community/neighborhoods (Foley 1966: 9-14). During World War II, Agawaam played an important role in naval aviation with its Naval Air Station Long Island Sound located here since 1942 until 1945 when it closed due to lack of airfield space for fighter bombers being built at other sites around New England due to wartime bombing restrictions placed on all U .S . cities except Los Angeles California!

The town site was first settled by the Wampanoag tribe in 1636 as part of a land grant given to them by English President John Adams. The town's name derives from an Attic word meaning "meadow" or "plain." The first settler in Agawam was Nicholas Congdon, who arrived in 1701 and built a house on the corner of State Road and Main Street. In 1715, Ebenezer Stoughton bought property in what is now Agawam from Nicholas Congdon for £50 sterling. He named it Quincy after his brother-in-law Joseph Quincy, 2nd Earl of Mount Cashel. In 1821, Agawam became part of Amherst; but it reverted to Hampshire County when that county was created on January 1, 1825. In 1865, Amherst incorporated as a city; but Agawam remained unincorporated until its incorporation into the city on April 27, 1930. On November 3rd
