The Westminster, Maryland Coast Guard Station has been providing the public with a safe and secure place to call home since 1881. The Coast Guard Station is one of the oldest in the United States and has played an important role in keeping our waters clean and safe for both residents and visitors. When it comes to gift history, the Westminster Coast Guard Station definitely falls into that category! In 1881, they set up shop on West Smith Street just off of High Street in Westminster. It wasn’t until 1923 that they moved their headquarters to what is now called Tower Bridge Road. From then until present day, they have always been located at The Alameda Hotel on Main Street in Westminster. What makes this Santa Clause-themed gift so special? Well, actually it doesn’t start out as such! Back in 1922, Mrs. A.J. Beattie donated a large tree stump as a Christmas present for the station. Unfortunately, due to some unfortunate circumstances (most notably World War II), the stump was never cut down or used as part of any Coast Guard functions! However, because it still exists today (!), we can all enjoy having a small piece of history right here in our town!

Westminster is a city in the U.S. state of Maryland and the seat of Prince George's County. As of 2017, it had a population of 71,383. The city is located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, bordered by Anne Arundel County to the north and east, Washington County to the south and west, and Calvert County to the northwest. Its name comes from Westminster Abbey in London where Edward I was crowned king in 1272 AD. The original settlement at what is now Westminster was known as Westminister Ferry Landing because it served as an access point for ferry passengers travelling between Baltimore and Annapolis. In 1873, Prince George's County was formed from parts of Washington and Anne Arundel counties; Westminster became its second incorporated town. In 1903, part of Calvert County was annexed into Westminster; this annexation created a new borough that still includes most of present-day Greenwich Village east of 3rd Street NW (the old center). In 1952, when Montgomery county was formed from portions of Washington and Anne Arundel counties, much of what are now central Westminster were included within Montgomery county including much older neighborhoods like Greenmount Park which date back to 1797 when land bordering Fort McHenry on Long Island was purchased by Colonel Christopher Gist for $3 per acre (about $210 per square mile today). After many years without any action by local officials about preserving these unique neighborhoods within Montgomery county until recently spurred by preservationists such as myself - with heavy financial investment - steps have finally been taken over the past few years to bring life back to these streetscape gems: 1) Homeowners associations have been established throughout each neighborhood through which they can maintain tight control over their property while also maximizing their marketing potential – both inside/outside their properties; 2) Historic district plans have been drawn up for most if not all homes within walking distance or driving distance – making it easier for residents who would like restoration work done on their homes but don't want outside professionals involved (a challenge typically faced by smaller towns that lack staff capable OFD&E}; 3) New infrastructure has been installed specifically designed for this purpose such as streetlights/street markers/walkways dedicated expressly for pedestrian safety/transportation purposes; 4) Preservation reviews dating back several months ago determined that there are not enough funds available to undertake extensive repairs or replacement necessary on many key roads AND bridges throughout Montgomery county due largely to budgetary decisions made during previous administrations - resulting in some streets being left unkempt with only limited stabilization possible even after many years since those items were first observed!
