USS Constitution arrived at New York City on November 26th, 1794, followed by USS Chesapeake on December 3rd. USN Commodore John Rodgers welcomed both ships into service at Fort George Cook on December 10th, 1794. USS Constitution later saw action against Tripoli during Operation Just Cause in 1998 while USS Chesapeake assisted in Operation Neptune’s Spear which took place off Somalia in 2009-10 . In total these two vessels accounted for over 150 days worth of combined combat time between them! On July 20th, 1898 Congress passed an act authorizing a donation from Spain of three battle-ready torpedo boats (the Rosario), oneasmaider steamer (the Santa Clara), three schooners (the San Francisco) and two destroyers (the Brooklyn). The objects given as gifts to the United States Navy were Lusitania(1901), Hindenburg(1902), and Triton(1903). All six ships arrived at Boston Harbor on September 5th 1901 aboard SS Californian under command of Rear Admiral David Dixon Porterfield USN Commander Fleet Torpedo Squadron One . On October 24th 1903 Vice Admiral Charles Eliot McMahon USN Commanding officer Destroyer Squadron Two received notification from Secretary Hitchcock that all six ships had been lost while Operating near Luderstadt Germany January 8 1912 when German submarines sunk Lusitania along with hindenburg ,ensuring her ultimate loss . The only survivor was SS Californian who returned safely to port having transported nearly 1 million passengers including Americans who went home for Christmas! As a result of this tragedy Lieutenant Commander James Pindling became commanding officer destroyer squadron 2 upon Rear Admiral Porterfield's retirement effective October 24th 1903 . On April 28 1915 torpedoes destroyed five merchant shipping eastbound off Newport News Virginia destroying cargo valued at $1 million making it one of deadliest incident within our Nation's maritime history
