Today, you can find evidence of English settlement at various sites throughout the city, such as an old fortuitous ford that separates Loch Raven from Rockville Centre Parkway (now Route 1), or an Episcopal church used by British military officers during the American Revolution. Takoma Park also has a rich colonial history itself. In 1881, when it became part of Washington County, Takoma Park became one of the largest Utopian communities in America due to its healthy air quality and easy access to nature resources. For many years, it was considered one of the most pollution-free cities in America due to its large parks and green spaces – something that still remains true today! Takoma Park was settled in 1792 by George Washington and his family. The original Takoma Park, located today in Southwest Baltimore, was named after Mount Takoma, in the town of Annapolis County. In 1814, the United States purchased what is now Takoma Park from the British Crown for $2 million. The first time that people visited this area were French fur traders who sailed up the Potomac River in search of new land to settle. The first white man to set foot on American soil was Captain John Smith when he discovered the area around Takoma Park on November 5, 1791. For many years there was little development take place because of a lack of money and interest from settlers. However, in 1814 entrepreneur James Smeaton developed an area north of present-day Takoma Park which became known as Northern Maryland at that time. In 1861, General Ulysses S. Grant made a visit to Northern Maryland and saw how much progress had been made since he had last visited there twenty years earlier during his abortive campaign for president back then called the “ invasion of Mexico” (Grant later said he only wanted to see what would happen if he invaded). Afterward Grant decided to move forward with building a road through Northern Maryland which would eventually connect Washington D.C., Baltimore City, and northern Delaware County making it possible for people traveling between those areas easier and faster than ever before (the modern Interstate 95 highway). Unfortunately for Northern Marylanders like Governor John Atterbury who opposed the road project due to environmental concerns (the parklands were then part of Frederick County), Grant won over most members of Congress with his persuasive speeches realize that such a large infrastructure project could benefit not just Northern but all parts of America if completed successfully. In 1877 Commissioner Moses Levy announced plans for an amusement park called Centralia which would be located adjacent to present day Takoma Park along I-95 southbound between Mt Royal Avenue and Poplar Street/Route 434 eastbound past National Road/US 301 southbound into current day Montgomery County including future spots like Silver Spring where Bethesda sits today Another company also came up with similar ideas called Eastern Shore Parks Corporation which offered recreational opportunities such as swimming pools, tennis courts etc near various beach towns along Eastern Shore lines running parallel to I-95 including Rehoboth Beach Towson Beach Oxford Harbor Seaford Allentown . However none of these plans ever went ahead because no one wanted their name associated with something they didn’t actually do or build . On July 10th 1898 typhoid fever killed more than 150 people within days in Baltimore city limits when patients got sick from eating raw chicken grown at nearby Johns Hopkins University farm known as Rosedale Hoggs & Co.. This event caused great concern among local officials as it coincided with an increase in typhoid cases throughout America due to Poor hygiene conditions brought on by War efforts abroad while also increasing food supplies available at home . To make matters worse yet another outbreak occurred less than two weeks later killing six more people within four blocks radius centered around Reformatory School next door on Key Highway/US1A .. again raising public awareness about poor hygiene practices being prevalent right outside their doorstep .. finally some typeof solution must be found soon or else we will see even more fatalities from food borne illness !
