Salisbury is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 5,032 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington-Baltimore-Chevy Chase metropolitan area. The town has been inhabited for over one thousand years and was incorporated as a town on July 1, 1827. Salisbury’s history goes back to when the Potomac River crossings were easy and travelers would go there for goods or rest after journeys through Frederick and Anne Arundel Counties. The first settler in what would become Salisbury was Nicholas Fry who moved from Norwich, England in 1795 with his family to help start a new life in America. He settled on land that now constitutes the northern section of present-day Salisbury Township. On October 16, 1800 he married Sarah Goodspeed and they later had two children: Nicholas (born December 4th, 1800) and Francesca (born March 10th, 1802). In 1809 Nicholas bought 80 acres of land from John McCoy which included what is now the eastern section of present day Salshire Township; this property became known as Old Town Square today. In 1827 Salisbury incorporated as a town under Act No. 3 of that year which provided fortown meetings to be held monthly with approval by the state board of commissioners On July 1st 1827 Salisbury had an official population of 510 with just over 50 per cent being white males only while black residents made up 2% of the total population
