The Naval Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company was founded in 1892 by Rear Admiral John W. Hyatt as the first naval shipyard in the Washington area. The company built ships for the Navy throughout World War II, including the USS Enterprise (CV-6), USS Yorktown (CV-11), and USS Constitution (CV-24). The yard also produced submarines, aircraft carriers, and other warships. In 1966, the company was sold to Bethlehem Steel Corporation and became part of that corporation's shipyards subsidiary. Hyattsville is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 21,385 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington-Arlington-Alexandria Metropolitan Statistical Area. Hyattsville was incorporated on February 15, 1881. The town was named after Major General Isaac Hyatt and his family who were early settlers in the area. The first post office in Hyattsville was established on December 12, 1872. On November 14, 1886, Hyattsville became one of the original towns in what would become Prince George's County. On October 5, 1892, voters approved a referendum to incorporate as a city by State law 6 months earlier than planned due to lack of opposition from other communities in the county which had already applied for incorporation. On November 20th of that year Mayor John Acheson unveiled plans for what would become Baltimore's first city limits outside of Eastern Shore communities like Ashtown and Burtonsville while also incorporating much of modern Hyattsville into new city boundaries including much of Northwest Baltimore along with most present day neighborhoods within present day Arlington Heights and Bowie Park (the current border between Bowie Park and Oriole Park). In 1895 hyattsvilians voted to rename their town "Baltimore" after then President Grover Cleveland with only two dissenting votes After years of planning and fundraising by various groups local businesses fully came online during late 2005 when construction began on Johns Hopkins University Line light rail line serving downtown Baltimore City having no impact on retail or residential development taking place adjacent to existing traffic circles/arteries

Here are some of the most notable navy gift history moments: Operation Blessing—the first major military donation by the navy to overseas charities Navy sailors gave more than $1 billion to humanitarian causes between 1948 and 1966, setting an example for other branches of the military. Operation Blessing was initiated by Rear Admiral John Richardson during his time as Commandant of Naval Academy midshipmen. Richardson believed that “to give back to our brothers and sisters who have asked us for help, we must be willing also to take on our own share of responsibility for those in need” (Allison). In 1948, Richardson organized a team of naval officers under his command to offer aid to refugees streaming into Israel from Palestine. The donations totaled $100 per person, which helped provide food, shelter, and medical assistance to over 1 million people. This was only the beginning; Richardson continued donating money throughout the years until 1976 when he announced that he would stop giving any additional funds due to social unrest in Central America (Kramer). Operation Homecoming—the largest donation ever made by the navy In 1984, Admiral James Stockdale led a delegation from the navy during their visitations at Mexico City and Querétaro following recommendations from then-Secretaryof Defense Caspar Weinberger. The delegation collected more than 1 million pounds (500 tonnes) worth of goods including clothing, appliances, trucks and cars belonging to Mexican businesses and individuals (Galloway). This donation set a precedent for subsequent visits by members of navies all over Latin America in order to distribute donated goods directly unto local residents(Lopez).
