Fresh roasted coffee beans, also known as "coffeepots", have been a part of the Hagerstown community for over a century. The first record of coffee being roasted in Hagerstown is from 1875, when George Washington bought land near the present-day intersection of Market and Fourth Streets. The first coffeepot located in town was built by John A. Vickers in 1892. In 1916, Harry Kipper took over the business at Third and Main Streets. By 1922, Harry's Coffee had become one of the most popular independent coffee shops in Hagerstown. In 1951, Harry Kipper's son, Don Kipper, moved the business to its current location on Fourth Street between Market and Columbia Streets. At this point, Don began to sell pre-packaged coffee products as well as freshly roasted coffee beans and creamer sets. In 1978, Don passed away and his son Rick inherited the business. Rick continued to run the shop until 1990 when he sold it to Eddie Fenton who kept it running until 2003 when it was purchased by Janice McNamara who operated it until 2006 when she sold it to Kevin Reilly who ran it until 2009 when Reilly passed away. At this point, Fresh Roasted Coffee Corporation (FRC) assumed ownership of the store and continues to operate it today."

Hagerstown is a small town in central Maryland, about 20 miles east of Washington D.C. It is the seat of Carroll County and has a population of about 18,000 people. The name Hagerstown was given to the town by General George Washington after he destroyed Fort Hagerstown on his march from Yorktown to Fortress Monroe in 1781. The town was founded in 1792 by John Stevens and others as a stop on the Great Western Road between Frederick and MD notes that Hagerstown "was one of the earliest villages within our limits." In 1812, Governor Isaac Nott appointed Colonel James Waddell as first postmaster of Hagerstown. Waddell began issuing postcards with pictures of his home at Potomac Ferry Landing (present-day Rosslyn), which helped promote postal service in the community. During World War II, many local businesses were involved in manufacturing materials for the war effort including mines, munitions plants, aircraft production sites and more. After the war ended, many companies moved away or closed their doors but some remain such as Jardine & Mathews which still manufactures watches today and Colt Firearms company that still produces pistols and revolvers today
