Greenbelt is a town in Montgomery County, Maryland, United States. The population was 7,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first white person to live in Greenbelt was Nicholas Hill in 1824, and it became an agricultural community with a few manufacturing enterprises soon after. Today, the USAF annually honors more than 2,000 individuals and groups with commemorative items and accessories. AIRFORCE COMMEMORATIVE GIVING PROGRAM: 1948-2018 In 1948, the United States Air Force instituted the AIRFORCE COMMEMORATIVE GIVING PROGRAM (ACGP) as a way to commemorate individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to the air force. The ACGP is now an annual tradition that recognizes more than 2,000 individual and group contributors across all branches of our military. The ACGP begins with a proclamation by President Harry S Truman on July 4th, 1948 “in commemoration of those whose heroism and sacrifice has helped make America great’s air arm”. From then on, every year AFB member are invited to submit donations or other memorabilia relating to their personal aviation heritage in order that this special program may honor deserving individuals from around the world. Since its inception in 1948, many AFGCG recipients have become icons within their respective branches of service – including legends such as USAAF Chief Marshal Curtis LeMay and First Lt Neil Armstrong – while others less well-known members of our military through their commitment or dedication towards aviation have also achieved distinction.
