Elkton, Maryland is home to one of the most important coffee roasts in the United States. The first coffee beans were roasted here in the 1800s and continue to be produced today. The roasting process began with small, hand-roasted beans. Over time, more and more automated equipment has been added to the production process, resulting in a more consistent product that tastes better and costs less. The history of Elkton's coffee industry can be traced back to 1824 when two farmers purchased a large parcel of land in what is now Elkton Heights. They started roasting their own beans and selling them directly to customers. By 1830, they had developed a small commercial establishment that served not only Elkton but also neighboring townships. In 1835, they opened a larger business at this location that continued until 1865 when it was replaced by an modern structure. In 1886, Mr. John Hargrave began buying land north of town and developing it into what is now known as Hargrave Farms Park. This area became home to one of Elkton's first grocery stores and later became home to several other businesses including a bakery, ice cream parlor, cinema theater and post office. In 1954, Hargrave Farms merged with another local business, Mrs.'s Coffee Shop & Bakery Inc., which continues to operate today as one of Elkton's oldest businesses still in operation!

Elkton coffee began as a small, family-owned coffee shop in the early 1900s. The first barista, who was also the owner of the shop, began roasting coffee in his home. It wasn't until after World War II that Elkton Coffee became an established business with a large roast program and a strong cafe presence. In the 1970s, the business changed hands several times before becoming operated by current owner Bobbi Cummings. During this time, they introduced bagged iced coffees and brewed their own milk. In recent years, they have expanded their roasted and ground coffee offerings to include espresso and decaf options as well as variety packs of different beans for purchase or subscription delivery.
Elkton is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. Elkton is located on Route 7 about eight miles (13 km) east of Mount Vernon and two miles (3 km) north of Bethesda. The first record of humans living in what is now Elkton dates back to 8,000 BC when settlers from the area traveled down the Potomac River. A post office called Elkton was established in 1826, and remained in operation until 1954. In 1955, a group of investors led by J.P. Morgan purchased 20 acres (8 ha) of land south of present-day Elkton and began to build a sawmill which would produce lumber for local homes and businesses. The mill continued operations until it closed in 1957. During World War II, the United States government bought 1,500 acres (600 ha) of forested land adjacent topresent-day Elkton for use as an airfield known as "McMahon Air Force Base". After the war ended, the land reverted back to its original owner and was used for farming until it was designated as part of Princess Anne County open space in 1984. Today's downtown area takes its name from John Cavanaugh – an early settler who donated $10 000 towards construction of a Masonic Temple in 1923 – via deed given to him by then-Mayor Harry Sink on July 4th that year: "Elkton Place" became "Cavanaugh Way". In 1951–1952 developer Waddell Hite built several high-rise buildings on what are now central streets within sight of each other including State Street NW and High Street SE; these structures remain extant today as well as portions of Gassaway Road NW and Elmwood Avenue NE which bisects Park Drive SW across from Fort Detrick Army Base). Elkton Elementary School opened its doors on September 3rd 1915 with grades kindergarten through eighth grade serving students from Cedar Lane Middle School next door which had opened twelve months earlier with grades five through seven having been housed at nearby Monument Elementary School while new classrooms were being constructed at Morrison Hall where Grades One through Eight were taught before moving into their own building on July 1st 1916.. Today there are over 350 students attending school here ranging across 11 different schools districts with more than 100% graduation rates despite regular classes times varying up to 3 days per week!
