The first settler in what would become Easton was Nicholas Harrell on December 12, 1784. He founded a small farm near present-day Long Branch and built a cabin there. In 1827–28, John Wesley Smith surveyed and plattered out what would become Easton Township on behalf of James Hargrave Sr., one of America's earliest settlers with interests in real estate development. The township was formed from parts of two other townships: Greenbelt to the west and Bel Air to the east. For many years until about 1870, Easton consisted mostly of farmland with few buildings or residents. Until about 1830 when large numbers of German immigrants began arriving in Prince George's County (many coming through Baltimore), farming was primarily an agricultural economy based on raising pigs, chickens, bees/wasps/venus flytrap traps (for catching flies), cornucopias from upstate New York which were Kiraoke nights favorite entertainment pastime for early nineteenth century farmers living along the Eastern Shore; some also raised cows or hogs for meat production In 1840s when steamboats became available betweenBaltimoreandWashington Dc., transporting passengers and cargo over Patuxent River then downriver to Georgetown then Philadelphia daily including weekly trips upriver on various vessels running between those ports; enabling business people who hitherto had relied upon horse drawn buggies/wagons or walked could now enjoy improved transportation options thereby driving prices down considerably within these same communities making more money than ever before being able to purchase goods outright not having them transported miles away

Easton, Maryland is a town in Cecil County, Maryland, United States. The population was 5,471 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1791 and incorporated in 1836. Easton is named after Captain John Easton of HMS "Eagle" who sighted land on the east side of Annapolis Bay in 1771.
