The Coast Guard had its beginnings in the late 1800s when officers of the town of Easton, MD, became interested in keeping watch over their town and itsbayous. In 1892, a group of men who were desirous of starting a coast guard service met to discuss the matter. The first members of the Coast Guard were sworn in on November 25th, 1892.
Easton is a small town in Prince George's County, Maryland. It is located on the eastern border of the county and has a population of 2,553 as of 2017. The town was founded in 1792 by Potomac colonists who came from Northumberland County, England. Today, Easton is home to many businesses and cultural institutions, including the Easton Arts Center and Easton High School. The town was first known for its trade in cornmeal and flour for local markets. In 1853, Eastern Maryland Railway arrived in Easton to build a line from Cumberland to MD-7 (now Bowie) with a stop at Easton. This rail station helped make Easton an important center for commerce and culture during the 1850s and 1860s. During World War II, many residents served in the military or were drafted into service. Many businesses closed during the war but have since reopened. One such business is KFC which opened in 1947 after being closed for nearly 20 years. Easton, Maryland is a small town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 3,838 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington-Baltimore-Eastern Shore Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded by David Easton in 1824 on land he purchased from John Smith and his family. The first settler in Easton was James Cone who came to the area in 1827. In 1830, John Fenton arrived and started trading with the Indians. He also built a log cabin on the east side of Main Street near where it now intersects Route 7. In 1834, Easton became an incorporated village under the name "Easton." It has since changed its name several times; in 1907 it became "Nanticoke," in 1945 it became "Easton," and finally as of 2010 it remains as "EastON." In 1854, two settlers named Charles Goodspeed and Hiram Horseshoe bought land north of present day EastON from David Easton for $10 per acre (1/2 mile²). goodspeed donated 150 acres to local school district which still uses that land today as one half of their Central High School Campus & park boundaries
