By 1875 whenUMCP became an Agricultural School it had moved to its current location on North Frederick Road which included two buildings: “The Old Farm House” now used for classrooms and staff offices located behind Gate 4B of Campus Drive while “The New Farm House” served as an academy for boys until 1912 when it was donated by Mr & Mrs Atherton who also gave rise to Millsaps Hall which houses both undergraduate (Grade 9-12)and graduate levels faculties office spaces along with classrooms for fine art history courses currently taught by Assistant Professor Dr Jillian Duchatel On December 1st 1870 there were only 8 students enrolled at what would be known as "UMCP" with Classes starting January 10th 1871 . Classes initially consisted of 3 years coursework followed by 2 year extension! farming Art! It wasn't long before Gail Borden became our Dean's predecessor...Gail Borden who later served as President Emeritus Today we have over 12 thousand amazing alumni from all 50 U.S States plus many international institutions including Cambridge University England In 1865 Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney donated land southwest of present day College Park off I-95 for a new school system specifically designed for black children called Fisk Academy which opened its doors on October 15th 1865 . That same year The Baltimore Hebrew Congregational Society assumed responsibility for feeding Black Children attending Fisk Academy making it America's First Jewish School For Boys ! In 1870 Rev Elisha Walker purchased 400 acres east side of I-95 near present day McPherson Square from Pohlman Brothers Coal Company giving rise to Bowie State Forest today home to Umpteen hiking trails , baseball diamonds , waterfalls & more !! Reverend Walker also funded building of Bowie State Chapel which stands today adjacent to Bowie State Forest !! Today you can find remnants of that chapel such as alterations made during renovations conducted by The Univ Md Foundation back in 2010 Admission requirements at this time were very stringent with only a small number given into scholarship programs!! Many talented young men & women attended Fisk Academy but unfortunately not all survived into college & postgraduate life
