The Marine Corps has been deployed in many places, but College Park is perhaps the most recent and significant deployment. The Marines first landed in College Park on December 7, 1941 during World War II. The Marines have fought in many wars since then, including the Vietnam War and the Iraq War. They are still involved in peacekeeping efforts today. The Marines were founded as part of the United States Armed Forces on October 16, 1802. At that time, they were called “The Continental Marines” because they served within the Continental Army during the American Revolution. After America declared independence from Great Britain, members of the Continental Marine forces participated in various battles against British troops until 1783 when they finally disbanded. It was not until after World War II that Marines began deployments to other countries outside of America. From 1951-1955, they served in Korea as a part of Operation Neptune’s Spear which aimed to stop North Korean aggression while also providing strength and support to South Korea. In 1982-1985, they served as part of Desert Storm which was a military campaign conducted by Iraq against Kuwait

College Park, Maryland is a city in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 51,898 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in the county after Hyattsville. The University of Maryland School of Medicine and Health Sciences is located in College Park. The area that would become College Park was first settled by Europeans in the early 17th century. In 1814, Congress created Prince George's County as part of what would become the United States of America. On December 14, 1846, College Park was incorporated as a town within Prince George's County. On July 1, 1959, it became an independent city when its residents voted to secede from Prince George's County. On October 15, 1960–the same day that Maryland became a state—College Park adopted its current name: University ofMaryland Institute for Advanced Studies in Baltimore City. In 1967–68 University ofMaryland students staged a sit-in on Morrill Hall at UMBC to protest tuition increases being proposed by then Governor Albert Hogan and UMBC President Frederick Hargrave. On November 5th 1968 police used tear gas and pepper spray to disperse UCM student protesters occupying Morrill Hall which had been turned into a facility for housing persons with mental health issues following riots at campuses across the country subsequent to Jack Kerouac's "On The Road". After weeks of peaceful protests and negotiations between university officials and members of the community college students' union (CCU), Morrill Hall reopened on January 3rd 1969 with free access for all students without any prior notice or charges to anyone other than those already enrolled at UMBC; this event marked UCM's first open enrollment period since 1968 and their last before they were fully integrated intoUMBC under new leadership including Chancellor Drs John Cavanaugh (later Professors Ralph Bunche III and Cornelius Berry). Cornellia University opened its doors on February 21st 1969 just two blocks away from UMBC campus via North Presidential Boulevard side streets east off I-95 corridor providing continuing educational opportunities for many black college graduates who found themselves without accessible higher education options during significant portions of both his terms as governor (1969-1972) & president (1973-1978). The first college in the area was Jesuit College of Maryland, which opened in 1785. The school closed in 1802 because of financial problems. The second college to open in College Park was the Presbyterian Academy, founded in 1811. The academy closed in 1823 because of financial problems. In 1824, a group of businessmen led by James W. Smith bought the Presbyterian Academy and moved it to what is now called Friendship Hall on Gordons Road. In 1829, the school renamed itself Catholic University of America after becoming part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Baltimore. In 1830, the university became a state university and also started offering undergraduate degrees at its new campus on Queen Anne's Island near Washington D.C.. The university experienced more financial difficulties during the late 19th century due to increasing social unrest throughout America and Europe that had caused a decline in enrollment at universities across North America. However, Catholic University OF AMERICA regained its stability and prosperity during World War I by creating an agricultural research center on campus that remains one of the most important centers for agricultural research in Maryland today. During World War II,Catholic University OF AMERICA again reformed its academic structure as an all-encompassing national institution with colleges and schools within three faculties: engineering; business; and theology/morals & social welfare studies (THS). After years of hard work by both faculty members and students, Catholicism UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA entered into full membership with American Councils International (ACA) as an international institution on September 15th 1947 pursuant to resolution No 7325 passed by Congress uniting all American collegiate institutions under one administrative umbrella including THS programs previously conducted separately among various faculties or schools although separate appropriations were continue for these programs until recently retaining individual responsibility with each programmatic arm viz., Engineering; Business Administration; Social Welfare Studies - THS On October 2nd 1958 St John's College merged into Catholic UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA making it one large educational institution comprising five constituent colleges plus four degree-granting agencies viz., Arts & Sciences; Humanities & Social Science Institutions; School Of Veterinary Medicine & Agronomy ; School Of Mineral Sciences Catholics United For Education named their successor organization "St John's College And Univrsity Of Baltimore" Incorporating Thoroughly Holy Name Society - STJHCS hereafter . On July 1st 1966 St Johns Colleege And Univrsity Of Baltimore amalgamated forming "St John's University". Finally from 1978 through 2003 St Johns Colleege And Univrsity Of Baltimore absorbed many other comprehensive institutions which formerly constituted independent colleges or universities been mergers or acquisitions including Bowie State Teachers College (1978), Eastern Shore Community College (1982), Northern Virginia Community Colleges (1984), Francis Scott Key High School(1986), Monmouth County Community Colleges (1988), Saint Mary's County Community Colleges(1990)), Carrollton Community Schools(1992)), Salisbury Area Vocational Technical Institute(1994)), Dunmore Valley Tech Center(1996)) leaving only Catholics United For Education represented heretofore inside campuses .......
