The battalion was redesignated on November 12, 1951 as the 4th Battalion, Maryland National Guard and again on October 15, 1957 as the 5th Battalion, Maryland National Guard. On September 11, 1973 the battalion became the 6th Battalion, Maryland National Guard. The battalion was reactivated on September 13, 1984 at Fort Meade in Baltimore County and concurrently went through activation process with counterparts from Frederick County. The battalions were then stationed at Ft Belvoir in Arlington County until their current location at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Prince George's County effective January 1st of 2009 when they transitioned from active duty to full time status with Headquarters and Headquarters Company being located here since then.
