Westbrook, Maine is a small town in southern Maine. The population was 5,569 at the 2010 census. Westbrook’s history goes back to 1785 when it was known as North Westbrook and was part of the Hammond family estate. The current name of the town comes from a grant given by James K. Polk to General John Sherman in 1884. The first coffeehouses were opened in Westbrook in 1845 and were called The House on Main Street and The Coffee House on Park Street. In 1865, the first commercial roasting plant was built in Westbrook by Brothers Coffee Company and became famous for its fine coffee beans. In 1898, the first post office located in Westbrook opened with three mailboxes that are still standing today. The town has developed many businesses over the years including: clothing stores, auto dealerships, restaurant chains (such as Jamba Juice), breweries ( such as Pabst Brewing Company), and toy retailers. Many of these businesses have closed or been sold off within recent decades but some remain active such as Pabst Brewing Company which continues to produce quality coffee beans today.

It was founded by English colonists in 1822 and named for General James Biddle Westbrook. The town has a history that goes back to the 17th century when it was part of Boston Massachusetts. In 1822, General James Biddle Westbrook took up arms against the British and after several engagements with British forces he retreated to Westbrook which became his home until his death in 1836. The community developed around two schools: one for white children and one for African American children. After World War II, many jobs disappeared because of technological advances while others migrated away due to industry changes or globalization. In recent years, there has been an increase in small businesses as well as new development such as a Walmart store which opened in 2006 and has since become a major employer in the community. Today, Westbrook is an important center for trade and commerce with its location on Route 219 making it easily accessible to local businesses and residents alike. As an agricultural town with some livestock production still going on today, it also provides employment opportunities for local farmers as well as jobs for other people who are not related to agriculture including mechanics, lawn care services and other manual labor jobs that don't always require four-year degrees like those found elsewhere on North America's continent

Westbrook, Maine is a small town located in Penobscot County, Maine. The population was 1,582 at the 2000 census. Westbrook is the only town in Penobscot County and the entire state of Maine. The first permanent settler in Westbrook was Nathaniel Halsey in 1820. In 1835, two brothers named John and Israel Westbrook settled on a farm nearpresent-day Westbrook. They were soon followed by their wives and five children. The original home of the Westbrooks still stands today and is used as a museum. There are several stories about how the town got its name. One story says that when William Butterfield founded what is now Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1795, he named his new community after one of his horses which had run wild in England before landing at Plymouth Cove on Long Island. Another story says that local farmers heard about an opportunity to purchase land near Waterville for $5 per acre (which was then worth $100 per acre) so they offered it to descendants of Daniel Webster who had come to America during the Revolutionary War as part of General Washington's army. When asked what he called his new settlement, Daniel Webster replied "Westbrook". In 1824, Samuel Morse built a sawmill in present-day Scarborough and started exporting lumber from Westbrook to Boston and other cities across North America. This helped develop trade between Northeast United States and Canada which led to increased commerce between these two countries and helped create many jobs for locals including Samuel Morse himself who became one of the richest men in New England during this time period In 1829–30, Reverend James Caldwell preached a sermon entitled "A Sermon on First Christian Sabbath" within sight of present-day Scarborough Elementary School where it still stands today It read: "When we behold our brethren enjoying religious worship among us without molestation or interruption... we feel assured that all around us religious truth is being proclaimed with unswerving energy." At this time there were no schools within towns or villages so children attending services walked east or west along Manchester Road to get their share while parents took care of their homeschooling children back home This sermon inspired Reverend Caldwell to start teaching school lessons from scratch using hillside classrooms just outside Scarborough Elementary School beginning on Easter morning each year until 1850 when he finally moved into his own school building adjacent to current day Scarborough Middle School . After preaching for over 25 years throughout most parts of Maine he died suddenly at age 82% due to heart disease on October 5th 1865 at precisely 9 AM local time while serving as Pastor Emeritus atPresent-Day Shelby Baptist Church located just southwest corner Bradford Rd & US Rte 27
Westbrook was first settled in 1820 by Joshua Westbrook. The town was named for Joshua Westbrook, the founder of the town and a member of the Maine General Assembly. In 1830, Westbrook became part of Cumberland County and was renamed Manchester. In 1853, Manchester become a city and was named for Jabez Manchester, an early settler in the area. The city changed its name to Westbrook in 1940 when it merged with nearby Cumberland City.
