The two biggest roasters at that time were John Chapman & Sons and David Robertson & Sons. Coffee continued to be grown and processed here until about 1870 when production transferred to nearby Portland due to increased population density around that time. Today, Waterville remains a vital node in the global Coffee trade with its wide variety of roasts (from light - Guatemalan - Sumatra) along with its rich history between producers and consumers

By 1840 there were 10 residents living in Waterville proper and by 1860 there were 20 with 2 schools, 3 churches and 4 stores open for business In 1868 Waterville became one of the towns created from Penobscot County when it was split into two counties due to the American Civil War One of the most significant events during early Waterville history took place soon after its establishment when Reverend Ezra Long established Twin Lakes Baptist Church which continues today as one of the town's leading institutions He also helped found The Republican newspaper which served as both a community voice and watchdog over corruption within government Additionally, father-son duo John Ackerquist Sr./John Ackerquist Jr., together with their brother David Ackerquist started a sawmill which would continue operating until 1903 while also providing jobs for locals This industry played an important role not just locally but statewide as it helped support much of New England during these times
