The Waterville Air National Guard Unit 514th Airlift Wing is a unit of the Maine Air National Guard. The wing was established on September 3, 1954 when the Waterville-based 159th Bombardment Squadron was transferred from the Portland-based 153d Bombardment Wing. At that time, it was the first squadron in Maine to be equipped with Boeing 707 jet aircraft. On May 15, 1958, the 159th BS moved to Keesler AFB Mississippi and became part of the 363d Bombardment Wing under command of Ninth Air Force. On July 1, 1962, as a result of a merger of wings in Minnesota and Maine, Waterville's group became one element of Minneapolis-St Paul's 376th Bombardment Wing under Ninth Air Force control. In December 1978, as part of Threshold Defense System modernization plans initiated by President Jimmy Carter at his request, all USAF bombing squadrons were ordered to divest themselves of their jet bomber elements and become components of Tactical air commands (TACs). As a result, all but one squadron in Maine (Waterville's) were reassigned to Threshold Defense Command structure including 514th AAC which had been located at McGuire AFB since its establishment on September 3rd 1954 until its demobilization on April 30th 1959. The units present at McGuire AFB include: 119st FS; 122nd FS; 126th FS; 128th FS; 133rd FS; 135th FS; 137FS; 139FS/GMSWBUVQOWOSDRSWWNHHQCK); 141st Fighter Squadron (Fighter Bomber); 142nd Fighter Squadron (Light Bomber), 439TH AAF Base Unit flying CF-18s and C-130s detachment also active engaged in various homeland operations while Detachment 2 patrolled Waterville River Valley Airport during winters months. 514 AAC flew F2H Banshee aircraft into combat in support Operation Desert Storm from 1990–1992.. In 1991 they replaced obsolescent McDonnell Douglas MD-82As providing trooplift capabilities for Operation Neptune Spear & Iraqi Freedom which involved lift service for over 19000 troops deploying into Kuwait City as well as other locations throughout Iraq& surrounding areas

In recent years, however, the river has become polluted with industrial emissions from nearby factories and homes.
The United States Air Force (USAF) has been providing air support for Operation Desert Storm since October 1990. The USAF has a history of gift-giving to its members, dating back to World War I when the Service presented medals and other items to pilots and enlisted men in distinction. During the Vietnam War, USAF commanders granted gifts to their troops in order to promote morale and symphony concerts were also given as special occasions. Since the end of the Cold War, USAF members have enjoyed many commemorative items such as buttons, t-shirts, and books mailed by the service’s postal service. Since Desert Storm began on August 2nd1991, various USAAF units have sent tribute or donated goods including clothing, food, munitions, vehicles and even aircraft parts. One unit that has taken particular pride in its contribution is the 5th Air Force which donated an F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet fighter plane along with two sets of wings and landing gear. Otherunits that have contributed include: Headquarters Squadron Forty-Fourth Fighter Wing (HAS 44), The 341st Airlift Group (TALG), The 434th Airlift Squadron (4AIS), The 525th Aeromedical evacuation Squadron (5AES), 1st Aerospace Rescue & Recovery Squadron (ARSR)and 3d Aerospace Medical Evacuation Squadron (3AMES). Today's USAF provides humanitarian assistance through Operation Enduring Freedom – Operation Iraqi Freedom – Joint Task Force - Coalition Provisional Authority airlift missions; these flights are vital for delivering medical supplies and disaster relief personnel to areas impacted by natural disasters or combat operations. In addition to his/her duties as Commander of Air Forces Central Command's Southern Region assigned responsibility for all USAAF forces located within Iraq - Kuwait - Saudi Arabia - Qatar area; General George W Bush was also personally responsible for awarding medals at ceremonies held at Wright-Patterson AFB on November 12th 2002 during which he presented each recipient with a medal citation plaque inscribed with their nameplate and number. These citations reflect Special Operations Forces' unparalleled capabilities in addressing both major Contingency Operations across multiple theaters while simultaneously maintaining operational security; this is accomplished through highlytrained commando teams who possess extraordinary skills in precision strike operations against suspected terrorists anywhere in the world Many items gifted by USAF members go beyond simply giving material support or fulfilling ceremonial duties associated with memorial events honoring fallen comrades from different wars fought by our country over time...the RAF especially enters into this type of relationship because they understand how important it feels not just To give but receive something back from those we serve...In 2003 when RAF member Don Price died whilst flying alongside coalition warfighter jets over Baghdad his family decided that they wanted his Spitfire Mk V down at home so everyone could see it there where it belonged! It was only after a long process that allowed for display outside his home until finally it arrived at RAF Lyneham Common last year where it will now stay forever! As one can imagine this type of gesture goes beyond just being a simple gift but rather reflects immense respect shown towards someone who has made such an enormous impact on our military culture
The Air Force gift history can be found on the Air Force website. It includes a list of gifts that have been given to the military branch, as well as how they were received.
