The navy has been a part of our community in South Portland, Maine for more than 125 years. The first military presence in the town was at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard during World War I. From then on, the navy was always there to support local industries and keep us safe. Today, we are proud to offer our customers an amazing gift history that goes back to when the navy decided to deploy here. In 1941, the navy deployed 1st Marine Division units to South Portland as part of Operation Neptune’s Spear. This event marked the beginning of a long history of service and collaboration between our community and the navy. Throughout World War II, we hosted a variety of naval activities including amphibious assaults, bombing raids, and Fleet exercises. Today, we continue this tradition by hosting events such as Navy-Marine Day ceremonies and boat launches throughout each year. Our sailors have played an important role in supporting our local economy and keeping us safe since 1901!

The navy also provides drivers with training so that they can provide excellent service while on deployment. This year, the Navy is expanding theDeployed Gift Program even further by providing smartphones for servicemen and women stationed overseas. These phones allow servicemen and women to stay connected with family and friends back home without risk of being clipped or ruined during transport. South Portland, Maine is a town located in the eastern portion of the U.S. state of Maine. The population was 9,721 at the 2010 census, an decrease of 2% from its 9,811 count in 2000. The town is bordered by Brunswick to the north and west, Machias to the south and east, and Orono to the northwest. The land that South Portland lies on was first settled by English colonists in 1624. In 1820, South Portland became a part of Cumberland County. In 1832, it became a part of Orleans County. In 1886, South Portland incorporated as a city within the current municipality of SouthPortland. The city charter was amended in 1978 to allow for single-member districts with voting representation for both mayoral and City Council members; this change helped increase voter turnout for local government elections since no other municipality in Maine offers such an election system). South Portland, Maine is a town in Cumberland County, Maine, United States. The population was 714 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from the place where the first post office was established in 1821. South Portland has been inhabited by people since before European contact. The area that now makes up South Portland was settled by English colonists in 1620 as part of present-day Cumberland County. In 1766, King George II granted a patent to Nicholas Lowrey for two square miles (0.8 km2) of land east of the downtown core of South Portland and including what are now Whitefish Point and North Beach.. The first Post Office in SouthPortland opened on December 5, 1821. The townsite rapidly grew due to its strategic location along Penobscot Bay and its easy access to markets and transportation links with other parts of Maine. By 1850, the town had over 1,000 residents and boasted a market that sold everything from fresh produce to trade goods such as salt water fishing gear. Growth continued through the years as businesses became larger and more complex; during World War II, for example, many factories were located within walking distance of SouthPortland’s main commercial district. However, during the late 1960s-early 1970s significant growth took place in Downtown SouthPortland as developers began to redevelop older properties into high-end housing developments including Park Place Towers – one of which stands today at Second Street & Kingsway Boulevard across from Pioneer Square – while also building new streetscape improvements such as an expressway linking Downtown with eastern suburbs around Bangor and Easton. TodaySouth Portland is home to a number of cultural institutions such as galleries and music venues; it also retains some traditional values such as its independent school system which offers education opportunities for all citizens regardless of financial resources or parental involvement
