The Army National Guard of Portland, Maine has a rich history that goes back to 1834. The first military unit in the city was the 3rd Regiment of Dragoons, which was organized on December 5th, 1834. The regiment served as an infantry militia until it was redesignated as a cavalry regiment in 1851. In 1862, the 3rd Regiment rendezvoused with the Union army and fought at Bull Run Bridge. After the battle, its colonel became General Joseph Hooker’s commanding officer and led his brigade across Maryland into Pennsylvania where they participated in the Battle of Gettysburg. The regiment disbanded in 1865 but re-organized again on May 14th, 1870 as part of the 2nd Brigade, 1st Division “Amery” Militia Corps under command of Major General Wm A. Hurlbut. On October 6th, 1870 it merged with Company E (2nd) New York Volunteer Infantry and became Battery G (3rd Maine Artillery) United States Volunteers Infantry Brigade Columbia Barracks Portland Navy Yard Portland Maine National Guardsmen Museum Portland’s relationship with the Army National Guard began before any other town in Maine when Captain John Paulding donated land to establish Fort Washburne on what is today Federal Way Boulevard in downtown Portland on December 5th, 1834. Fort Washburne was soon expanded into a full-fledged military post and later renamed Fort Rankin after Captain Ransom Rankin who served as Commandant for several years from 1840-1844. After being reactivated for just two months during World War I on April 12th 1917 from Oregon Reserve ForcesService Units mobilized since 1916 such as batteries F(7), G(4), H(6) were activated at Camp Butler hearkening to President Woodrow Wilson's call for all American men over 25 years old to register and volunteer for service overseas no matter where they were located including members of both state militias who had mobilized earlier that year at Bangor Naval Shipyard which closed due to lack of recruits In 1922 responsibility for civilian defense fell within local police forces while national guard troops continued their role until May 7th 1927 whenordinance changed involuntary registration by civilians ended effective that date On October 26 1984 company C5 Hercules transport vehicle crashed while enroute from Exeter barracks depot towards Winthrop barracks depot near milepost 116 just short of Goffstown thence onto prescripiton road leading out Bald Hills Rd about 8 miles south east following USRoute 202 until impact killed driver operator passenger David Krasnoff; injured 4 other people

The Portland, Maine Army National Guard is one of the state's largest military units. It was established on July 1, 1875, as part of the Vermont National Guard. The unit was redesignated the Portland, Maine Army Reserve on November 1, 1908. The current organization dates back to 1921 when the regiment was redesignated Second Regiment Infantry (2nd ME).

The history of the United States Army is a long and convoluted one. There are many different branches of service that have been within the military for centuries, but the US Army has always been one of the most significant militaristic organizations in American history. The first modern US Army was created in 1775, and it quickly became evident that the army was necessary to maintain order during America’s fledgling Revolution. The army played a critical role in pacifying much of North America during the War for Independence, and even helped lead to the signing of the Treaty of Paris which ended hostilities between America and Great Britain. In 1812, President James K. Polk authorized creation of an infantry regiment called “1st Missouri Volunteer Infantry” to help protect Washington D.C., which was then under siege by British forces. This act would later prove decisive as 1st Missouri Volunteers eventually defeated British troops at Battle Of Yorktown in November 1814. With this victory, Americans demonstrated their commitment to democracy and self-reliance, paving the way for future military successes such as Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003-2007) or Afghanistan (2011-present). Despite its many accomplishments over time, however,the USArmy has also come into contact with some serious controversy throughout its history. For example, several prominent members of Congress have voiced concern about how often large numbers of soldiers are used in combat overseas without any semblance of democratic accountability or human rights abuses – allegations that have typically been proven false through independent empirical evidence. Additionally, there has been a recent spate of scandals involving corrupt officers within soldier units across various countries around the world; these occurrences have raised questions about whether or not current military structures can be considered healthy enough to continue serving our country responsibly years into the future? While both sides involved in these controversies – soldiers and civilians alike – deserve credit for coming up with innovative solutions that have helped improve conditions on battlefields all over America (and beyond), it is ultimately difficult to determine whether or not reform is needed at all given how pervasive corruption has become throughout militaries globally today!

Portland was founded in 1795 as a small trading post on the Misquamicut River. The town grew rapidly and by 1820 it had reached its current size. After the American Revolution, Portland became an important center for trade and politics in New England. In the 1830s, it emerged as one of the most vigorous cities in America, becoming known for its art galleries and fashionable nightlife. But during the 1840s and 1850s, Portland's fortunes declined as waves of immigration turned away local businesses from downtown to new suburbs. In 1855, however, Mayor John A. Fenton declared Portland an open-air city with a grandiose vision for its future: "The city must be made so beautiful that no foreigner could mistake it for any other place in America." In 1861, when Maine seceded from the United States, Portland became part of Canada and experienced rapid growth as a result of colonization by Canadian immigrants. In 1907, following World War I, Portland experienced yet another renaissance with the arrival of thousands of refugees from Europe. From then until the late 1990s, large numbers of people from all over East Asia began settling inPortland; this has led to increased cultural diversity and social cohesion within the community.
