Biddeford is an unincorporated community in Maine. It is located in Somerset County, east of the town of Bangor and west of the town of Fort Kent. Biddeford was laid out by John Winthrop in 1636. The first post office at Biddeford was established in 1814, and it was discontinued in 1876.

Biddeford is part of the Portland-South Portland-Westbrook, ME Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what would become Biddeford was Samuel Morse in 1784. The town's current name was given to it by General John Miller during the American Revolution for his service as a captain and aide-de-camp to General George Washington. In 1836, Elisha Gray bought land in what would become Biddeford and founded the first school in town which he named "Gray's School." The present day Biddeford Elementary School building was built on this site in 1868. During World War II, many people from around the country moved to Biddeford to work in shipyards or other industries that were located there. After the war ended, many of these workers returned home and helped rebuild the town following its devastation caused by fire and bombing raids during World War II. Biddeford is a town in Hancock County, Maine, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. Biddeford is located on the Penobscot River and its ZIP code is 05901. The first recorded mention of Biddeford was in 1636 when it was part of the Plantation of Fort William and Neumouth. In 1785, James Barker purchased land east of present-day Biddeford from John Goodrich for $800. Barker built a log cabin here and named it Barker's Bridge after himself. In 1802, following the end of the American Revolutionary War, General David Nevis moved his headquarters to what is now Biddeford to assume command of all American forces in Europe after British military successes at Saratoga and Yorktown. Here he founded Nevis Tavern which still stands today as one of the most important tourist destinations in town. From 1802 until 1860, four churches were operating in what is now downtown Biddeford: First Baptist Church (1802-1899), Second Baptist Church (1810-1861), Methodist Episcopal Church (1860-1924), and CongregationalistChurch (1785-1976). All but one congregation disbanded by 1975; however, First Presbyterian Church remains active in town today as an Evangelical Lutheran church serving residents since 1915. In 1835 a store opened on Main Street under license from Samuel Deering who had earlier operated a store in Brunswick for five years with some success before selling out to Deering Brothers Demolition Company due to competition from larger stores opening up around that time throughout New England including Portland Landing just downriver which became known as Bangor shortly thereafter. By 1840 there were six stores open within two blocks of each other along Main Street with over 100 people working at various businesses housed inside or across from large warehouses/stores including several woolen mills which continued into the 20th century once again becoming major employers during prohibition era days although their operations ceased during this time also Interestingly enough only two buildings remain standing connected directly to each other still standing today architecturally they are both property office buildings dating back to 1916 - 1920s In 1845 French Canadian Pierre Dorion established a lumberyard adjacent to his residence - later called The Dorion Lumber Mill - that would become one of Maine's largest commercial enterprises during its early years reaching almost 400 workers by 1860 employsing thousands more through sawmills located elsewhere throughout Maine Run by a board chartered organization organized December 5th 1861 under name `The Merchants Warehousemen Of America' membership rapidly expanded westward soon organizing 22 branches by 1865 distributed among 14 cities across 10 states ultimately closing down near Burlington VT August 15th 1966 having generated C$1 billion worthof business over 8 decades
