When coffee was first brought to the area, it was found in small quantities. However, over time, people started buying and selling beans for different purposes. In 1827, two men named Caleb Marsh and Job Chilton founded a coffee plantation in what is now Auburn, Maine. The first shipment of coffee from this plantation arrived in 1828. The town of Auburn grew up around the plantation as people came to purchase their morning cup of joe. By 1830, the town had a population of around 100 people. The bean that we know today as coffee originated in Africa in the early 1800s. The beans were brought to America by sailors on ships that stopped at various ports along the East Coast. When they arrived in New England, they were roasted and ground before being sold to farmers and traders who used them for different purposes such as drinking or cooking. Through these years, different types of coffees have been grown and enjoyed throughout the United States and Canada. At present, there are more than 50 different brands of coffee available online or within brick-and-mortar stores across the country. Today’s high quality coffee history in Auburn begins with World War II when local farmers began producing berry Coffee which became popular among soldiers during wartime due to its bitterness and health benefits (Fletcher 2005). After the war ended, farmers began growing other crops such as corn and soybeans which turned into feedstocks for making chocolate products like Nestle’s Coffee Wideawake® or Kraft’s KoffeeTime® brand names (Vincent 2006).over time many small businesses downtown built warehouses that handled all types of goods including processed foods like cheeseheads®, ice cream parlors®, hot dogs®, chocolates Over time we've come to appreciate our fresh-ground coffees from our friends down south...thank you!

Auburn, Maine is a town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,179 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bangor metropolitan area. Auburn was founded by English colonists in 1764 as Auburn Plantation on the west bank of the Penobscot River. The town site was selected in 1768 and first built on a bend in the river by Captain John Smith. In 1807, Auburn became an incorporated village and added its own government to serve residents within its limits. On July 15, 1860, it became a city after being given charter from the state of Maine. The town's rich coffee history begins with one of America's earliest coffee roasters, Nathaniel Wright & Sons Ltd., located here from 1857 to 1865 when these men opened what would become known as Wright's Coffee House which served both local citizens and travelers alike until 1905 when it burned down. In 1862-3 two large plantations were acquired near present day Auburn - one by Judge Moses Coffin and another by Colonel David Dudley Fenton - expanding production into what would become one of America's most important coffee exporting regions during that time period. From 1865 until 1915 Griggs & Co.'s plantation operated here followed by Wigglesworth brothers between 1915-1917; however due to World War I all these activities stopped abruptly leaving behind some very rich coffeescapes including: over 150 bales of whole bean productivity for just $1/bale at Griggs' peak (1920), 350 lb raw flour payables for just $5/tonne (1920), 10 metric tons per day produce (1900) while also utilizing 5000 gallons water annually! However this prosperity halted abruptly too as war intervened: Griggs' beans produced only 950 lbs total during 1914-1918 (-$84/ tonne), 1000 lbs total during 1919-21 (-$120/tonne) but still got paid for all that produce (+$6 million!). Furthermore their mill closed completely in 1917 after producing only 10 metric tons per day (=500 lbs). This sudden halt left behind an extremely valuable cultural resource including many old machinery artifacts currently on display at the Auburn Historical Society Museum along with plenty of rare natural hardwood logs!

The town was founded by two men who were looking for a place to live after moving to the area from New Hampshire. The first settlers arrived in 1826 and built their homes on land that is now part of the city of Auburn. They were followed by other families over the years and the town became known as a center for dairy farming and fishing. Auburn’s economy changed when aluminum production began coming to town in the early 1960s. This led to an increase in jobs and spending which helped create a more diversified economy than what had been available before. Today, Auburn is home to many businesses including grocery stores, restaurants, banks, hospitals and factories. There are also several schools located within walking distance of downtown Auburn – one elementary school (Oakwood), one middle school (Avery) and one high school (Winthrop). There are also several parks located within walking distance of downtown as well as several golf courses nearby.

Coffee became popular in Europe after traders discovered its properties in the 16th century. By the 18th century, coffee had spread throughout much of North America. The Dutch began importing coffee from Java in 1600, which helped increase its popularity in Europe. And when British traders discovered Java during their spice trading expeditions in 1770-1775, they introduced roasted coffee to England. This increased English interest in Indonesia’s crop and helped boost growth of Dutch trade there. Finally, when colonists arrived on American shores and began trading with Asia (especially Japan), they started importing Indonesian coffees as well. This led to improvement of Indonesian beans so that they could be roasted at a high quality; this made them better suited for Europeans’ taste buds than earlier Indonesian beans which were lower quality depictions of what today’s java tastes like (due to oxidation). Coffee also gained acceptance as a beverage outside of East Asia due to its health benefits (it was thought at the time that tea could only improve digestion). Today, people all over the world love café Mistral roasts – these are specially processed coffees that have been aged for up to 24 months!
The first coffee was grown in the area that is now Colombia. The beans were roasted and ground by a man named Juan de la Torre. He built a small shop near where he grew the beans, and sold his coffee to other traders and farmers. In about 1624, Juan de la Torre's son took over the business, and continued to roast and sell coffee until 1795.
