Auburn, Maine is a town in Knox County, Maine, United States. The population was 534 at the 2010 census. It lies on the border of Knox and Cumberland counties. Auburn is located in the southeastern corner of Maine and is bordered by Vermont to the north, New Hampshire to the east, and Quebec to the south. The town's name comes from a small stream that flows through it. Auburn was settled around 1800 by Loyalists who had fled British rule in North America during the American Revolution. The community was named for Robert Auburn, an Englishman who had served as a lieutenant colonel in Colonel John Stark's army during that battle near present-day Brunswick.
