Zachary is a small, rural community located in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. Zachary is one of the poorest and most uninsured communities in the parish. The population was 4,811 at the 2010 census. The community takes its name from an ancestor, Zacharie Bledsoe, who came to Louisiana in 1802 from Kentucky. Zacharie's father had been born in what is now Madison County, Alabama. Zacharie's mother was from a family of noble escaped slaves who had come to Louisiana before the American Revolution. In 1826, when Zacharie was only 10 years old, his father died leaving him and his mother to fend for themselves as free men. For three years they live off their land and hunting skills until they are able to get help from friends and relatives in Baton Rouge. They finally gain entrance into the state government service through being appointed marshal of Jefferson Parish by Governor John C. Breaux on December 1st 1829 after successfully petitioning for office with signatures from every white male over 21 living within the parish boundaries at that time! In 1830-31 - under Governor John Atherton - they move into a new house on Third Street which will serve as their home until it burns down due to a natural disaster on July 6th 1832 (see below). It is during this time that he begins keeping official records of all activities within the parish which would later form the nucleus of what becomes known as "The Book". On October 5th 1835 - just two months after taking office as Marshal - he dies suddenly while out riding with some friends near White Sulphur Springs; leaving behind him an unfinished task requiring many weeks' work! The Book would be completed by his son Archibald Bledsoe sometime after his death but not published until well into the 19th century! The first section (pages 1-14) concerns news reported back and forth between deputies assigned to various tasks throughoutJefferson Parish including those stationed at Alexandria Station where I am writing these lines today... As you can see herein there were LOTS OF DIFFERENT REPORTING RESPECT TO LOCALS LOCATED IN ZACHARY AND AROUND THE AREA BACK THEN INCLUDING STORIES OF VIRGINS SEEKING TO EAT THE LEMON TREE BEHIND THEIR HOUSE OR OF PEOPLE TRYING TO ESCAPE FROM CRIMINAL TRIPS BY FRAUDING ON THE PUBLIC HOUSES THEY LIVE IN!! Many people still talk about THAT DAY 25 YEARS AGO WHEN ALL OF ZACHARY CHILDREN WERE SUSPENDED FROM SCHOOL FOR THREE HOURS AFTER AN ADULT FAMILY WROTE DECEPTELY ABOUT THEIR MOTHER WEARING CLOTHES THAT DIDN'T CONTAIN LEVERGES!!! Today even though there are no schools here anymore & many people have left for other places because of lack of affordable housing or health care options we STILL REMEMBER THAT DAY 25 YEARS AGO WHEN ALL OF ZACHARY CHILDREN WERE SUSPENDED FROM SCHOOL FOR THREE HOURS AFTER AN ADULT FAMILY WROTE DECEPTELY ABOUT THEIR MOTHER WEARING CLOTHES THAT DIDN'T CONTAIN LEVERGES!!! We also remember how everyone was so scared when we heard about that day & especially when adults said things like "oh she must have been wearing something underneath" or "it wasn't her". We KNEW IT WASN'T HER!!!!!!!!! Today we stillCOLOR CODE OUR OWN RECORDS WITH BLACK SO NOONE WILL KNOW WHAT REALLY HAPPENED TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Zachary is a small town in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana. The population was 2,023 at the 2010 census. It was named after Zacharias Bowles, an early settler in the area. The first Europeans to visit Zachary were Frenchmen and their Indian allies who came in search of new land to settle in what is now southeastern Louisiana during the 17th century. In 1724, Father Jacques Marquette and his party explored this area and discovered the Mississippi River Valley which would later become part of Illinois. In 1802, Samuel Houston established a post on Galveston Island as part of his Texas Expedition against Mexico. He named the island for General Zachary Taylor who had fought with him at Buena Vista Creek (now Corpus Christi), Texan-led War of Independence. On April 6, 1845, General James K. Polk sent Brigadier General Elijah Holmes from New Orleans to take control of all Butler County within Gulf Province east of Sabine Pass as part of US Departmental Order No 1081 "Forcibly remove all & anybidden white men from Texas." On May 1st Holmes arrived at Fort Worth where he reported that 569 Texans had been driven out by order of Polk and that some 3,000 more were remaining inside Texas under military protection awaiting orders to leave or be discharged. Approximately 400 Texans including 200 women and children underaged when relieved by United States Marines landed on June 16th at Matagorda Bayou near present day Brenham AFB and set up camp Dubose's Ferry Landing next to Brazos River Bridge before being forced march northeast across open prairies into what is now eastern Chambers County along Holcombe Road towards Palo Alto (present day Gonzales). On July 12th they reached San Antonio de Padua about 25 miles north of present day Wichita Falls where they staked out Camp Bowie for two days before retreating due to bad weather conditions moving back acrossbraves into what is now eastern Chambers County along Turkey Road until reaching San Angelo about 30 miles south of Wichita Falls where they abandoned Camp Bowie for good on July 15th before continuing their retreat northeasterly through today's Haskell County towards Amarillo about 40 miles northwest of Wichita Falls
