During World War II, many Westwego residents worked on farms or construction sites around New Orleans because there were no jobs available elsewhere in Louisiana due to the war effort. Westwego, Louisiana is a small town located in the parish of Orleans in southeastern Louisiana. It was founded on April 10, 1803 by Captain John Bogue and his family. The first post office at Westwego was established on November 1, 1814. In 1830, the town had a population of 350 residents. By 1840, the population had increased to 1,500 residents. On July 5, 1845, Westwego became a part of the state of Louisiana. The population of Westwego declined from its peak in 1850 to 1800 residents by 1860 due to numerous factors including cotton farming and crop failures. However, despite this decline in population over time, WestweGO has remained an important community both politically and economically through its contributions to education and industry. The economy of Westwego is largely agricultural with some light manufacturing activity taking place such as clothing production. Today there are several businesses that continue to operate here such as a grocery store and two churches that still serve the community today. There are also several schools within walking distance of the town which provide education for children up until grade 12th however high school graduation rates remain low which may be due to insufficient funding or lack thereof from government entities or private individuals alike who have contributed money towards those efforts over time

However, during World War II, when Confederate forces invaded Louisiana to resist American military occupation, many African Americans fled to Arkansas or Mississippi because they believed their chances of being drafted into Confederate service were very high; this also contributed to declining levels of economically activity in Westwego after World War II. In recent years however, there has been some resurgence in economic activity due to new investment from developers and entrepreneurs who see potential for development within what is now a largely intact rural community with relatively low crime rates despite having few services such as schools or healthcare available nearby
